Hi, I want to install WhatsApp as GNOME Web (Epiphany) installable Application. But when I access web.whatsapp.com the browser is detected as unsupported Safari and link to UPDATE SAFARI is displayed (with message WhatsApp works with Safari 11).
I downloaded WhatsApp via the APK provided on the official website. It did not update once since then, I am still on version 2.23.11.78. But in another post it was stated that the APK had its own updater - like the APK from Signal. Now I don't know how to update it correctly. I have play services installed but I am not logged in so I can't use the play store. In addition to that I heard that WhatsApp bans people using aurora store. Is that true or can I update WhatsApp through aurora? And why does WhatsApp not update on its own?
Since you have not downloaded WhatsApp via Play Store or Aurora Store, you will not be able to update it from those sources. You just have to manually download it from their website again and install it again which will update it to the latest version. Are we talking about this link? -->
[deleted] I don't have official WhatsApp APK currently installed on my device, but when I did, I swear it came with its own updater and in general was the first class APK akin to Signal, unless I'm thinking of Telegram but I don't think so.
@cadmium Signal APK which everybody here agrees does auto update is always last in line to do so in case you're going solely by the current Play Store version and/or had WhatsApp installed only for a week.
Whatsapp has been caught temporarily banning users for installing Whatsapp from Aurora store: Temporarily banned from whatsapp (www.reddit.com), WhatsApp Temporary ban because of violation.. (discuss.grapheneos.org)
This wikiHow teaches you how to download and install WhatsApp on your iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Android tablet, or computer. You're only able to log in on one device at a time, so you can't use WhatsApp on your computer and the same WhatsApp account on your iPhone at the same time.[1]XResearch source
You should be able to avoid the xdg popup by blocking JavaScript for api.whatsapp.com through site permissions. Since the webpage has a "continue to chat" link that redirects to web.whatsapp.com, assuming I understood the problem correctly, that link is the solution.
If you download the app but do not install, do a properties on the (details tab) on the exe file as I did, for Windows 64bit, currently it is 0.4.315, probably can do this for the mac version using a mac PC.
When I do this in a Hubspot email, clicking the link/button opens my browser instead of my Whatsapp app. That then shows the correct pre-made message and provides a button 'continue to chat' but when clicking that, I get to a page saying 'Looks like you don't have Whatsapp installed!' + a 'download' button (that's not what I want).
I got sailfish installed today and found out that getting started is really hard. If you are totally lost in this likely new environment you may benefit from the manual (yes there is manual, but according to other posts on sailfish forums it is old, but the basics still apply):
I have experienced plenty of crashes with android apps, so even though it is not officially recommended I think native applications from openrepos are very needed addition even though installing third party apps is somewhat discouraged for security reasons.
Yes, definitely use Aurora Store whenever possible. It is just an interface to Google Play Store. You might prefer to install apps from the Amazon Appstore if available there, since they are Google-free versions.
Additional Information:
OS: Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon 64 bit
PS: tried reinstalling the brave browser, resetting to system defaults, and reinstalling WhatsApp on my phone. Nothing helped. WhatsApp web is working properly on the opera browser.
I would like to know if it is possible to install applications such as Firefox, Brave and Opera on the system through the Google application store and through these open WhatsApp Web, at the address: web.whatsapp.com/
In previous version of Firefox (the one with regular tabbed browsing for normal and private browsing) if use =0919848012345, I used to get a button continue chat and clicking on it used to take me to WhatsApp directly. Not the button directing me to an WhatsApp page asks me install :(. Also selecting the URL used to give me WhatsApp app icon along with cut copy paste options, which also used to direct me to WhatsApp. Now that icon is missing. The same is working on chrome on the same mobile. Firefox version :89.1.1 (Build #2015812947)AC: 75.0.22, 5204f4025GV: 89.0-20210527174632AS: 74.0.1
Attaching pics :1. Firefox showing message that WhatsApp isn't installed2.selecting URL doesn't show WhatsApp option5. On Chrome, Clicking on chat button directs me to WhatsApp. 3,4. On different mobile with same version of Firefox, Selecting URL shows option to open and clicking on it gives option of whatsapp
Nope, it didn't work. it behaves in same way. I believe somehow Firefox is unable to find installed whatsapp. URL selection leads to phone dailer option as it has a number, instead it should show installed app.
Just now I realized that it is not not even recognizing few apps installed and recognizing few. ie., when i open amazon URL and select the URL and click twice it is showing option to open with Amazon, where if I open Flipkart (Another shopping app similar to Amazon) simply showing Phone symbol along with cut, copy paste. It was working in earlier version of FF :(Please see attached pics of Amazon and Flipkart URL selection.
