In OSX Mountain Lion I'm getting beeps every time a facebook notification comes in. In System Preferences > Notifications > Facebook i have set my alert style to None. In the list on the left, the text below "Facebook" shows "Badges, Sounds". It gives me no method of turning off Badges or Sounds.

I found it. Account Settings>Notifications>How You Get Notifications>On Facebook>Play a sound when each new notification is received (UNCHECK the box). So far, it seems to be working. Whew. Thanks, Steve.

For background, I am currently using Fedora 33. For several months now, I am experiencing an issue with Vivaldi wherein notification sounds are not played until I open the tab which has those notifications even though the notifications were already delivered moments ago. Notification sounds are then not delivered in real-time which makes me miss several notifications from different websites.

For example, this problem occurs with Facebook Messages and Discord. I open Facebook/Discord in a tab then move to another tab. Moments later, a friend sends me a message and I expect a notification sound from Facebook/Discord to play. However, no sound will play until I go back to the tab of Facebook/Discord. The sound should have been played right after my friend sent me a message even though I'm in a different tab.

Hey i want to get rid of facebook's messenger annoying notification sound, but i don't want to stop all notifications. Ideally i would like for notifications to appear if someone is messaging me, but without any sound at all. Is it possible with IOS.

Basically what I am looking to do, is to change the notification sound to be different from my SMS message sound. (I actually used to have this working great somehow, but then my phone went for a repair and had factory reset).

On the Facebook Messenger App, I have assigned different notification sounds to different friends. While this worked for a week, it has now gone back to the default "Pop Ding" for everyone, even when it says a different tone is selected. Is there any way to fix this? I have deleted and reinstalled the App and also restarted my phone, and nothing has made any difference. I have made these changes in-app. Under general settings, it only allows me to toggle notifications and sounds on or off, not change the sound, and doesn't bring up contacts so I can change the sound for each person

I just upgraded to an iPhone XR, and the notification sound for Facebook Messenger has changed. I can't find how to change it back to the "classic" messenger sound, I only have a choice between sound off or on. Does anyone know how to change it back?

The App worked fine: I could receive instant messages, see when someone commented my posts and so on, except notification sounds for new messages. They just don't work even though I checked the option "Chat Sounds": see screenshot

When Messenger notifications fail to make a sound, you risk missing important messages and calls. Fortunately, you can resolve this annoying issue with some quick and straightforward fixes. As always, let us know which solution worked for you in the comments below.

You can configure most of the sound settings on the iPhone in the Sounds section of the Settings app. However, to change the sounds for Facebook Messages, you must configure the settings within Notifications. Three types of notifications exist that allow you to choose from a banner, an alert or no notification at all. You can also set Facebook to use sounds to enhance your notifications. Once you set up your alerts for Facebook, new messages will trigger a sound to notify you when somebody messages you.

Next, you have to check the Notification sound. As it is primarily a sound issue, you must set a valid file as your Notification sound. To verify this setting, tap on the Notification sound option, and choose the desired sound you want to play for notifications. Similarly, tap on Ringtone and choose a sound you want to be played when someone calls you on Messenger.

In other words, you can try to change the notification sound for Facebook Messenger and check if it solves the issue or not. Apart from that, toggle the In-app sounds button to turn it on. Please note that if it is already on, do not change the setting.

Yes I have the same issue, message notifications make a sound when unlocked, but not when locked, Lock Screen does not even light up when notification received. If I wake it up the notification is there.

I took out my very old iPhone se (1st gen) and started using it again, it is supposed to be compatible with iOs 15. When I get text or email it vibrates very gently, like I can feel it if I'm holding it in my hand, but no notification sounds, no ringtone when I get a call.

I have the same issue with notification sounds not working unless the phone is unlocked. However, the notification still sounds on my watch. When I turn off Bluetooth, the notification sound works just fine.

Messenger notifies you whenever you receive a new message or when someone adds you. If you're getting bombarded by Messenger notifications, you can adjust them so that they're less intrusive, or you can disable them completely. This wikiHow article teaches you how to turn off Facebook Messenger notifications.

Having a malfunctioning notification sound can be annoying and interfere with timely communication via Facebook Messenger. By trying the above-listed solutions, you can fix this issue quickly and restore your seamless messaging experience. Remember to keep both your app and device software up-to-date to avoid similar problems in the future.

Facebook Messenger for Android offers an on/off setting for all the notifications, and a choice of the sound of a notification and an incoming call. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer an option to silence the sound. You can only either choose among several different sound effects or disable all notifications of the app entirely. What if you want to keep notifications active so they appear in the Android drawer, use vibration, get sent to a smart band, and you can hear incoming calls ringing, you just want to mute the sound of incoming messages?

3) Finally, you need to select the file in Messenger. To do this, go to its settings > Notifications & Sounds > Notification Sound. The new file "Silence_100ms" should appear mixed with the list of default sound effects. After choosing it, your message notifications in Messenger will be silent.

There is one downside of this method. While not audible, the sound is still playing on every incoming message, so if you listen to music e.g. using Spotify, the music will fade out for a second every time the sound is played.

Try restarting your device as this can also help resolve the Facebook Messenger notification sound issue. For Android devices, press and hold the power button until the Power off option appears. Tap Power off and then select Restart. For iOS devices, hold down the power button until the device turns off. Then press and hold the power button again until the Apple logo appears.

In conclusion, the Facebook Messenger notification sound not working problem can be fixed by following the above-mentioned solutions. It is important to keep your Facebook Messenger app up-to-date and check your device settings regularly to avoid this problem. Just got the z flip 5. Love it so far but it has a very annoying problem. Every android phone I've had, I've had the ability to set different notification sounds for individual apps. I can not for the life of me figure out how to change just one or two apps differently from the others. I just want to differentiate a messge on snapchat, discord, Facebook, email, and regular text. It's driving me insane that I have to go find my phone every time it beeps to see if its important or not because every app makes the same sound now.

The Android version of Facebook lets you select a different tone for in-app notifications. Select the More menu (three lines) > Settings & Privacy > Settings > Notifications > Push (under Where you receive notifications) > Tone, and then select the alert sound you want.

The catch? You need to be running Android. If you're an iPhone user, you're stuck with Messenger's default "ding" sound for notifications and the default Messenger ringtone. However, there are a few tiny adjustments you can make on iOS, and we'll get to those after we lay out the Android side of things.

Now, like no two Android devices are genuinely unique, no two Messenger accounts will have the same notification sound and ringtone menus. That's because Facebook doesn't have custom sound options for you here other than the default "Messenger" alert tone and ringtone. Instead, it'll fill this options menu with your system's notification sounds and ringtones.

Note that there is also a setting for "In-app sounds," which only disables sounds heard when the app is open, such as when someone sends a new message or when someone is typing. Also, if you go into "Manage notifications," you can toggle off "Show notifications," which will disable alert tones and ringtones period for Messenger.
