I tend to make a lot of worksheets in Word since my handwriting might
scare the kids. I've used Mathematica, Winplot, Excel, Ti-
Interactive, and Geometer's Sketchpad to make tables and graphs.
However, very rarely am I completely happy with the results, or good
results seem very difficult to achieve. An advertisement for a progam
called Math Illustrations came to the school today and I'm going to
try their trial software out, but I was wondering if anyone had any
other recommendations. Also, does anyone know what Prentice Hall uses
to make the GW tests?

Mike-
I use the TI-Inspire software.  It allows you to create not only problems, but very intricate and detailed graphs as well.  You can obtain a free copy of the software from TI at learn to earn.  You get a 90-day free trial, complete a few lessons, take a quiz, and TI will send you a code for a permanent copy.  You can also download a free 30-day trial to see if you like some of the capabilities.  I have used some of the programs that you mentioned, and I truly love this program.

Another program that might appeal to you would be Geogebra.  It, too, is a free program.  It is an interactive program that you can use to create all types of documents.  It is available at geogebra.org, I think.

We ordered Infinite Algebra with the site license for all three (Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2). It is really convenient for making worksheets, quizzes, and some tests. There are not so many word problems such as on the EOC, but you can just choose the type of problem plus the level of difficulty and add it to the worksheet very easily. This is the same software that kutasoftware.com uses for their free worksheets. You can download a two week trial and see what you think. The Pre-Algebra has many of the Geometry topics.

I was also recently introduced to a free and really easy to use
program that makes creating graphs for worksheets/tests/powerpoints/
etc a breeze. It is available for download at www.padowan.dk Check it
out!

After checking out Geogebra, I have fallen in love with it. The
graphs look almost identical to the EOC samplers from the state. I
teach an Algebra 1 class to about 25 SpEd kids, so I've always thought
it was important to give them examples that look as close to the real
thing as possible. I'll post some examples soon.
