The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is offering Transportation Planning Grants (TPG) to assist municipalities and counties in planning for their transportation needs. Make sure your jurisdiction is aware and takes advantage of this resource.
TDOT is hosting a free TPG Webinar on September 10, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm CST (2:00 pm to 3:00 pm EST). Please register for the webinar. A recording of the webinar will be placed on the TDOT website.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Office of Community Transportation is pleased to announce that we are accepting grant applications for the 2025 Transportation Planning Grant (TPG). This grant opportunity is intended to assist jurisdictions with transportation planning efforts that determine strategies to support improvements in traffic flow, safety, mobility, and overall efficiency of the transportation system.

TPG Eligibility:
All Tennessee cities and counties
The TPG funds transportation plans only
TPG Funding Cap and Matching:
- The maximum award amount is $250,000
- The TPG is 80% federal, 10% state, and 10% local match*
- *Distressed and At-Risk Counties as determined by TNECD (and municipalities within) as of FY26 qualify for 0% local match
Eligible Plans:
- Corridor Studies
- Bicycle & Pedestrian Plans
- Complete Streets Plans
- Transportation System Management & Operations (TSMO) Plans
- Community Mobility Plans
- Resurfacing and Striping Plans
- We also welcome any creative and innovative transportation planning ideas
