Fire Department Engineer Nick Risner proudly serves with Columbia Fire and Rescue since May 2014. He and his wife, Katie, are devoted parents to their son and have built their lives around family, service, and community. In February 2023, during the department’s annual physical examination, routine blood work revealed life-changing news when Nick was diagnosed with colon cancer. Since then, he has faced a difficult and ongoing battle, enduring treatments while the cancer has continued to spread. What began as colon cancer later affected his liver and has now spread to his lungs, presenting new challenges with each step of the journey.
