More Than Fire: Unseen Risks and the Future of Firefighter Safety

Facing the Hidden Dangers: Addressing Cancer, PTSD, & Training Gaps in the Fire Service.

September 3

6:00-7:30 p.m. ET

Free Webinar | Zoom

Firefighters face more than just the visible flames on the front lines—they also confront a series of hidden, long-term risks that threaten their health, safety, and careers. This presentation explores three of the most pressing issues impacting the modern fire service: occupational cancer, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and inadequate training.

Participants will gain insight into the increasing body of evidence linking firefighting to elevated cancer rates due to toxic exposures, the mental health challenges stemming from repeated traumatic events, and the dangers posed by insufficient or outdated training. The presentation will also highlight recent legislative changes, evolving best practices, and real-world strategies that departments can implement to reduce these risks and support firefighter wellness and resilience.

Designed for municipal leaders and public safety professionals, this session aims to raise awareness, spark conversation, and encourage proactive efforts to protect those who protect our communities.
