Dear NFIRS... HELP!

"What should we code a Medical Alarm response as? I will use 321 if we provide medical care but if it is an accidental activation how are most coding this response?"

Dear fire department,

Although we could find no clarification for this on the USFA site, many departments use the code 622No incident found on arrival at dispatch address. We recommend coding it as a 745Alarm system activation (no fire), unintentional, while also clarifying in the narrative that it was a medical alarm as opposed to a fire alarm. In either case, a problem may arise when there is a false alarm issue at a facility that has both a fire alarm system and a medical alarm system. When reviewing responses to a particular address, it can be difficult to determine if there are issues with the fire alarm system or a medical alarm system unless additional clarification is provided in the narrative or in other fields of the report. If it is important to track it locally or separate it from other 700 series calls, local departments can create a plus one code, i.e. 745MMedical alarm system activation, unintentional
