Updated Course Now Available

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is pleased to announce the release of the updated course, Electric Vehicle Safety: An Awareness Level Training. Taking an estimated 1.5 hours to complete, this on-demand, self-paced course introduces first responders to hybrid and electric vehicles (EV), shares data and resources relating to EV response, and equips first responders with the knowledge and tools to respond more safely when a hybrid or electric vehicle is involved in an incident.

Updated information includes:

  • Improved clarity on electrical shock risks
  • Expanded fire suppression and extinguishment techniques
  • Strengthened guidance on battery disconnection and de-energization
  • Additional PPE and hazmat considerations
  • Enhanced EV identification and response best practices
  • Addition of EV infrastructure and charging station fire risks
  • Updated references

With the number of EVs on the roadways increasing, it is important for emergency responders to understand the unique aspects of incidents involving these types of vehicles. Take this training now and share with your crew to enhance safety and improve response.

This course is available free to all for a limited time.
