Please review  class minutes for May.14
 
Part 1:words and some sentences:
 
1.Density n.:Mass/weight per unit volume 密度
e.g:LA is not densely populated as Shanghai.
2.I don't know too(It is wrong )
I don't know ,either.(correct )
3.shock v.=short shaking 震动
4.vibration v.摆动
eg:A guitar string vibrates when it creats a sound .
5.epicenter:震中 
The point on the surface of the earth above the focus of the quake is called the epicenter.
6.rubble n.:碎石,废墟
7.magnitude n:how big 大小
8.intensity n.:how strong 强度
The magnitude and intensity of the quake is measured by the Richter scale.
9.adhere to =comply with
10.prone adj.倾向于  be prone to..
eg:I am very accident-prone.
11.be caught in 被困
eg:I was on my way home from work,and I was caught in a traffic jam.
12.conserve v.保留  & contribute v.贡献
eg:You should conserve / save energy & strength.
    You could contribute some money & blood.
 
 
Part 2.Nick's Topic:Earthquake
 
A. An earthquake is a trembling & shake movement of the earth's surface .
An earthquake hit/strucked Wenchuan on May.12.It was 8.0 on the Richter Scale  .Wenchuan was mountainous ,remote and not very
well developed area .So it make rescue efforts very difficult .Thousands of people are still buried under the rubble. It is terrible /sad tragic . These days many people are trying to find ways to get help to the area & where it is needed .
 
B. Nick divide it for three parts to discuss about Earthquake
1. Before the eqrthquake
.Secure the ppower and electrical equipment
.Get way from tall trees
.Maintain and adhere to builidng codes expeciallu in earthquake-prone areas
.Stock up on food ,water,money and supplies.
.Get you neighborhood involved and informed .
 
2. During Earthquake
.What should you do if you were caught in an eqrthquake
.If you hide under a bed you could be crushed /would be in danger
..Stay clam .Don't panic
.Look for sth. sturdy ,soild strong to duck under,or to crouch next to .
.Keep away from things that might fall over / on top of you
.Make sure that the door is open
.If you're on the coast or near a body of water,head for high groud asap .
.If you're driving over a bridge,drive off and pull off / over of the road .
 
3. After the earthquake
.Check for the fires and look for water or gas leaks.
.Try to shut off main valves(If you don't know how,look in the front of your phone book,instruction are sometimes printed there.)
.Turn the electricity off at the circuit breaker box.
.Be careful when opening cabinets-items may have shifted around in the shock .
.Look for injuried or buried people .
