Seeking Input and Engagement from Low-Income Renters
The perspectives, expertise and leadership of low-income renters are extremely important as NLIHC continues to advance policy solutions that ensure safe, decent, accessible, and affordable homes for the lowest-income people. NLIHC spotlights the efforts of low-income leaders through our Tenant Talk publication. We also facilitate conversations for renters impacted by federal policy in our monthly Tenant Talk Live! webinar meetings, at special renter sessions at the NLIHC Housing Policy Forum, and on a Facebook page built to foster discussion among tenant leaders. We want and need to do more! Growing involvement of tenant leaders is essential to our movement for housing justice.
To expand participation from impacted renters and people experiencing homelessness, NLIHC is conducting a five-minute survey to gain greater knowledge about the low-income renters and tenant leaders already in our network. To help us better engage renters about your perspectives and experience, the survey asks questions such as what type of housing you live in, whether you’ve experienced homelessness, what is your source of income, and more. All answers will remain completely confidential and each question is optional. These responses will help make our Tenant Talk Live! webinar meetings and Tenant Talk publications more informative and relevant to your lives and advocacy. Your feedback will also help us better organize and mobilize impacted renters with similar experiences and interests.

Please complete this survey if you:
- Are a subsidized renter living in housing where your rent is supported;
- Are a low-income renter who is looking for housing assistance but currently receiving none;
- Are experiencing homelessness;
- Have any of these experiences in your past, as your perspectives will also be invaluable.
The survey is open today, September 23, and will close in one month on October 22. Feel free to share with neighbors and impacted renters in your network. We will use your responses to expand meaningful tenant engagement so that we can better assist low-income leaders in their advocacy across the country.
Please contact Kyle Arbuckle, NLIHC housing advocacy organizer, at karb...@nlihc.org if you have any questions about the survey, Tenant Talk Live!, or other aspects of NLIHC’s resident engagement work.
Other ways to be involved moving forward:
- Register for the next Tenant Talk Live! webinar meeting through Zoom or by phone. Our next session is scheduled for October 5, at 6:00 pm ET, and you can register here: https://bit.ly/3cnCfwy. Tenant Talk Live! takes place monthly on the first Monday or each month. These sessions provide an opportunity for low-income renters to connect with NLIHC and one another, to share best practices, and to learn how to be more involved in influencing federal housing policies and to lead in their communities.
- Sign up to receive NLIHC’s Tenant Talk publication in the mail at least twice each year.
- Join our Facebook group for low-income resident leaders to share information with each other and for updates from NLIHC.
Again, you can access the five-minute survey here: https://bit.ly/361iOZp. Please complete it soon!
Thank you for being a partner in the movement for Housing Justice!
Onward!
