XPlane has always been the professional choice for a flight simulation package. However, over the past few years - X-Plane has become more popular with the "general" flight simulator user, the user that flies at home on his PC or Mac. The last few versions of X-Plane have been marketed toward general users and it is becoming increasingly popular within the flight simulation community.
With the increase in popularity, freeware developers have started creating add-ons such as aircraft and scenery packages for X-Plane. X-Plane is said to be more realistic in terms of flight dynamics than any of the Microsoft Flight Simulator packages, mainly because of the way X-Plane gives flight to aircraft models.
In Microsoft Flight Simulator, aircraft models are all similar with a simple configuration file to provide simple flight dynamics, while in X-Plane, aircraft shapes, sizes, and weights are taken into consideration in the simulation - giving more realistic flight.
Featured in this section are many aircraft, vehicles, helicopters, and scenery expansions for X-Plane, all available for download with your Fly Away Simulation account. Why not try X-Plane today? You can get your hands on the free demo here.
Perhaps you're already an avid X-Plane user, if so - you're sure to find a home here. You can visit our X-Plane discussion forum for discussion topics, and you don't even have to become a member to post. You will be pleased to know that we have recently reviewed the latest X-Plane 11 for our readers. You can read the review here.
You will also be keen to know that most (if not all) of the X-Plane 11 add-ons are also compatible with X-Plane version 12. So if you find anything that specifies XP11, it should work in your new copy of XP12 too.
Pretty much all of the add-ons and mods listed in this section are compatible with the brand-new (September 2022) release of X-Plane 12. We are updating the add-ons one by one as we test compatibility for completeness. This section covers the latest X-Plane 12 release.
Damn, I just realized how much I used to pirate software, but I'm out of that life now. I wanna know if there's a good a320 OR a330 Or a340 OR a380 for Xplane 11 that is freeware. Thank you guys, you are an amazing community!
I should also mention that the systems modeling has improved exponentially in two years. The overhead panel works pretty convincingly. And I love how I have to move the armrest to tune the radios exactly as I do at work. He modeled the sense of space (and lack of it) within the flight deck extremely well.
An FYI on this exceptional freeware aircraft, the current public beta seems to be pretty stable with the latest XP11 build and the x737FMC payware add-on. The HD liveries are just superb. Thinking about flying this for the MUDSPIKE Christmas challenge, since this is really the only time that I get go big. But some of you might think this cheating
For all x737project pilots we have prepared a public beta of our next x737-700 version. Besides other improvements we are now providing two different models for X-Plane 10 and X-Plane 11 to make sure that you can use new features and get the best...
I have seen the Excel file with the US freeware list, and i have seen a google map with airport dots that have Orbx freeware. My question is where does one find the file for a particular airport, and how do you download it?
Thanks Smudger. I do have the X-Plane libraries, Central, and the freeware products from Orbx. I was trying to get some of the freeware airports that are shown on a google map, but I found out the Global Freeware airports shown on that map are only available for FSX/P3D. I will try to find some Orbx freeware in the X-Plane community.
I am also having problems. I have downloaded the Orbx Library and was trying to look at the demo for Great Britain South for X-Plane but it doesn't matter which method I choose I get 1) Open in Orbx Central - Safari can't open the specified address, 2) Manual download - error 502 Bad Gateway, 3) Linux/MacOS download - error 502 Bad Gateway. How do I get the demo scenery? And how do I load it? Does it go in the Orbx Library folder? Where does the Orbx Library folder go, should it be in the Custom Scenery file?
Got it now. I didn't realise that you have to download from Orbx Central. All good now and very impressed with the graphics. I had a quick flight around the Isle of Wight and it is quite realistic although not sure about the Needles. Gonna have to get South England now.
On the X-Plane.org forums, an individual named Daniel af Cee has announced his intentions on developing ESOE rebro Airport for X-Plane 11 as freeware. The airport is around 90nm from Stockholm in Sweden and serves primarily as a cargo hub with some passenger traffic. Alongside civil traffic, the occasional military aircraft uses rebro Airport.
Hello to everyone!
Enough time has passed since the release of MSFS 2020
We see with each update new features and this is good, but personally I am sure some people are interested in the function of the camera
For example, in x-plane 11, the camera in the cockpit and the outside world can move in a free direction using the keyboard forward, back, left, right and mouse view.
For example, if you move forward with a key and click to make a free view, the motion path is free, not snapped to specific planes.
In my opinion and opinion, part of the community is this excellent function, which will give more freedom in movement, management and visibility.
I propose to start voting so that respected developers realize this opportunity to review in the cockpit and in the outside world.
I remember that for the console this feature may be superfluous, but for PCs versions with keys and a target it is simply necessary.
Yes, you are right that there is a Dron function, but I write about the possibility of moving in the cockpit is free, t e moving forward and mouse making an upstairs view, then the camera path would move straight and up, just like in x-plane 11 by default. Do you understand?
ZL Simulation recently released a new X-Plane 11 and 12 aircraft model: the Cessna 152. The Cessna 152 is a two-seat, fixed tricycle landing gear aircraft manufactured in the USA. The airplane model is free and is the first freeware airplane model from ZL Simulation.
Our listing Top 10 Freeware 2019 for X-Plane 11 makes no claim to completeness and does not represent a ranking. If a recommendable add-on should have passed us by, we are always happy to receive relevant information via our contact form.
Freeware to go vertically into the air was available this year from Alex Gifford, Ben Russell and Brett Sumpter. They converted their old Hughes MD500D, originally made for X-Plane 8, to X-Plane 11. The mod finally released by Joe Kipfer rounded off the package at the end and so we now have a really recommendable freeware helicopter for X-Plane 11.
A scenery on the payware level was created last year by X-Codr Designs and AeroDesigns. Both studios actually only develop paid products, but in 2019 they gave themselves a push and delivered this wonderfully remote airport somewhere in the middle of nowhere. And that even as freeware.
Joe from FLY X Simulations is another designer who develops not only payware but also freeware. With the airport Lanzarote on the Canary Islands he has released a very popular holiday destination for free this year. Even PBR textures with 4K resolution and a modeled terminal interior are included.
Beirut XP by Lebor Simulations was certainly one of the best rated downloads for X-Plane 11 this year - no wonder, after all, the development team has recreated the entire urban area in the Paris of the Middle East in detail and also implemented the associated airport.
Helicopters enjoy great popularity in X-Plane 11. This includes the Bell 206 JetRanger by Joe Rowe, who is continuously developing his project. The current Beta 4.15 even supports Force-Trim and the popular AviTab.
The PWDT development team has made a name for itself in the past with a large number of great aircraft from the former Eastern Bloc. Consequently, the Yakovlev Yak-18T as the first add-on of the designers for X-Plane 11 was a real hit. Beautiful model, sharp textures and a rich sound - everything is fine here!
This year PuffinFlight has released three lovingly designed grass pitches in the Polish Lower Silesia as freeware. Because the airfields are relatively close to each other, the package is perfect for relaxed flights in the evening. Thanks to the many sights like the castle Frstenstein there is also a lot to discover.
In this window settings in Ortho4XP can be made. Especially important: Defining the folder of overlays.John Jensen of Vidan Design has ventured on X-Plane 11 for the first time this year. To test it, he converted Grenaa Airport in East Jutland and released it as freeware. If you are interested in the small airfield in Denmark, you can buy the scenery in the shop of Vidan Design - for 0.00 Euros.
The main screen of Ortho4XP. In v1.3.0 this looks different than usual.Let's go into the bush: Propstrike Studio has modified the Cessna 172 from Laminar Research a little bit and made it suitable for bush flying. In addition to thick tundra tires there is also a version with tail wheel landing gear, an Angle-of-Attack-Indicator in the cockpit and plenty of cargo in the cabin.
The so-called Earth Tile Map from Ortho4XP, on which the desired areas are marked.Under the pseudonym monoblue, Stefan Schrn has released the tropical rainforest in the Thai province of Krabi as freeware for X-Plane 11. This is a semi-fictional scenery that was created in cooperation with Matthias Seewald of Maps2XPlane. For reality purists this is probably nothing, but everyone else will surely have fun in Krabi.
