The ANSI ANSI 70 is the color portion of the spec. The remaining part of the spec will indicate the type of paint needed. While we can provide PPG Pittsburgh Paints PC827 ANSI #61 Light Gray in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another brand.
The ANSI colors are realisable as printable spot colors on decals and product labels, but ANSI did not address how to render them in typical document printing. (Actually, the spec claims to provide Pantone equivalents, but does not.)

The Part 84 certification regulation provides for nine classes of filters (three levels of filter efficiency, with three categories of resistance to filter efficiency degradation). Installers should be aware of a condition known as thermal bow. Thermal bow is a temporary condition which may occur in metal doors due to an inside / outside temperature differential. This can occur when the direct rays of the sun strike a door surface. This condition, and the degree of bowing, depends on the door color, construction, length of exposure, temperature, etc. This condition can often be alleviated by painting the exposed surface a light color. In some cases of extreme cold, this condition may also occur in reverse.

The comparison of course can be quite time consuming and so a practical first step should always be to verify that the specification writer does actually wish for an equal / equivalent product to be put forward and is not just complying with company policy regarding listing singular trade names. A lot of time can be wasted providing supporting information for an equal recommendation that is unlikely to be accepted as the specification writer already has a strong preference, good experience etc.
