From 26 November to 16 December 2018, U4 is offering its new Corruption in the Health Sector Online Course. The course has been developed with development practitioners, public officials, and civil society activists working on health issues in mind, and aims to improve their understanding of how corruption hinders access to health care – and what can be done about it.
Week 1 (26 November to 2 December 2018) looks at corruption in each of the World Health Organisation’s Building Blocks for Health: leadership/governance; health care financing; health workforce; medical products and technologies; Information and research; and service delivery. Participants will also consider the consequences of corruption in the health sector, how to use Vulnerability to Corruption Analyses in this sector, and the role of power and influence in addressing health corruption risks.
Week 2 (3 December to 9 December 2018) takes an in-depth look at informal payments, which are a substantial barrier to access to health care in the developing world.
Week 3 (10 December to 16 December 2018) looks specifically at corruption in the pharmaceuticals sub-sector and how it can be reduced.
Participants will need a maximum of 3 hours per week to go through the material and to complete a short assignment. In order to ensure a shared basic knowledge of definitions, terminology and concepts of corruption, and anti-corruption, prospective participants must complete our 1-hour self-paced Essentials of Anti-Corruption I Module before they can take this course.
