Good Morning Family

Yesterday I spoke with our son and brother Terrell, which is a unique occurrence in its own right given that the last time that I recall speaking to him was at our house on the Jersey Shore circa 1985.  I friended him on Facebook (he goes by an alias “Noble Terrell Ali Bey”) and a couple of days later he messaged me with his phone number.  I immediately called him and proceeded to have a heartbreaking conversation with him.

Terrell has been severely stricken with muscular dystrophy for several years now.  He has no use of his lower extremities, is wheelchair bound, and requires 24-7 assistance to survive.  He was living in a homeless shelter on the lower east side for three years before he recently moved into an SRO residence across the street from the shelter on 133 Pitt Street, Apt. 614.  The effects of MS have left him without use of his left hand which is permanently closed into a tight fist. He is unable to provide for himself and remarkably manages to survive from an $800 a month government subsidy.

Terrell was extremely happy to hear from me as the last time he had contact with anyone in the family was when he showed up unexpectantly at Uncle Neilson and Aunt Lil’s house around 2016 after picking up his high school transcript at Jackson High.  Despite his deplorable living condition and painful daily existence, he was engaging and thoughtful in our conversation and I know he would love to hear from the rest of his family.

His phone number is 718 813-2171 and his email address is noblekingb...@gmail.com (that’s the Terrell we all know and love!).

Love to you all,

Darrell

Darrell, what you have done is a beautiful thing. Terrell and I texted a couple of years ago and we’ve been friends of Facebook for a few years, but this has prompted me to follow up on my promise to visit him. Thanks for spreading the love.

One heart,
Mark

Thanks, D.

So moved to hear of your outreach and anticipated follow up. Appreciate your finding our lost family member, and will also reach out to connect with him - hopefully see him, soon. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to assist Terrell at this challenging time.

Love you

Thank you for your touching email, Darrell.  Ever since hearing Terrell was in a wheelchair when he visited Aunt Lil and Uncle Neil a few years ago, I have been wondering where he is and how he is doing.  I will reach out to him soon and thanks again for the update.

Love you all,
Janis  🧡

Hey Family

I just received these photos from Terrell this morning. I haven’t seen him in over 35 years…

He wrote: “I have a bad chronic UTI from MS I was so sick Saturday and Sunday until like 3am…My spine hurts so bad I sleep in my wheelchair but was feeling so sick had to lay in the bed.”
