dear folks,
my sincere condolences to all, to be sure. From time to time i think back to the summer of ‘50 when i showed up at qc’s campus to take a couple of placement exams, and i met neil who already knew some of the tiny, black-student community. I’d seen Neil in the streets around stuyvesant high school, where we’d both attended but there’d never been an occasion for us to actually meet. Neil introduced me to the folks comprising the campus crew which, of course, included brother Vern. Except for such times when i happen to see myself in a mirror, I tend to remember all as they looked “back in the day,” and as the 17-20 year-old full-grown adults we “knew” ourselves to be. Time seems to have marched on at, it seems, an accelerated pace. Some years ago, in a conversation with Neil, I noted with disapproval, the foregoing phenomenon, and he observed, quite accurately, that, mathematically speaking, each year represented a smaller fraction of the whole. . . thus, the argument would follow, giving the impression of increased speed: e.g., it takes a “lifetime” to go from year one to year two. His analysis, which i never forgot, always worked for me.
I hope I’ll be able to see some of you soonest.
Love,
Unca-tommy

Uncle Tommy,

So heartwarming to read your words.

I miss my fam sooo much these days...never imagined growing up, that “we” would ever live in different states- across the county.

Was just talking with some friends today, about the foundation that our 10 Men AND women( especially our women /mothers) provided us. Truly added to the strength that I rely upon on daily challenges, as a Black woman.

I have far too many wonderful memories of my darling Uncle V- from saving Jeff(the dog!) in Tuckerton, NJ, to taking me for my driving license, as well as making Sharon and most of us, pretend we were under 12- when we were actually 14-17 years old!- to get into movies,  as “children “.

The nights of card playing, drinking and of course “MUSIC” will always be a part of my favorite childhood memories- days that I long for, especially during these times of pain due to ongoing racial injustices.

Love to all...and sincere thanks, for helping with my growth and development.

Much much love... T.
