YOUNG SCHOLARS DAY
The
Symbol in Literature and Philosophy
Saturday 26th June 2025
The Temenos Young Scholars invite 18–35-year-olds from all backgrounds
to attend a conference on the theme of
The Symbol in Literature and
Philosophy. The day will feature lectures, Q&A sessions, and
poetry recitals accompanied by plenty of convivial breaks. The aim of
the event is to explore the nature of the symbol, its use in philosophy
and the arts, and its integral role in human civilisation.
With
the lecture format as the staple of our programme, this Young Scholars
Day aims to kindle a spirit of shared, energised enquiry. The series
of talks will cover a range of literary and philosophical texts and
include reference to Kathleen Raine, Paul Ricoeur, William Shakespeare,
W.B. Yeats, and many others.

Hilary Davies (Poet, Translator, Non-Fiction Writer)
Dr. Edward Clarke (Poet, Literary and Art Critic, Lecturer)
Programme Overview
Morning:
Opening Address (10:00), Keynote Lecture by Hilary Davies, Two Young
Scholar Papers.
Afternoon:
Young Scholar Paper, Keynote Lecture by Edward Clarke, Three Young Scholar
Papers, Closing Address (17:15).
Call for Young Scholar Paper Contributions
Young Scholar Paper slots are still available. If you would like to
propose a paper, please show this on the registration form by
14th
of June
and await an email from one of the organisers.
