Hi, Microsoft will drop ActiveX support in Edge browser. I'm not sure
whether the Temasys plugin uses ActiveX or not. I just see a check:

var axo = new ActiveXObject(comName + '.' + plugName);

Will it work? Thanks.

Hi Inaki,

The plugin supports both ActiveX and NPAPI interfaces.
My understanding is the the new Microsoft browser will indeed drop ActiveX support, and therefore the plugin will not work on it.

I do remember that Microsoft was planning to keep a legacy browser in Win 10 to keep support for corporate plugins.
The plugin will keep working on this browser.

We hope that by the time Microsoft drops support for this browser, Spartan/Edge will have some implementation of either webRTC/ORTC

Cheers,
J-O

FYI, edge seems to have support for GUM but not PeerConnection.
I would see it as start in the right direction from Microsoft.

Yep, but I'm pretty sure they won't add PeerConnection but ORTC... :)

What is the current status of the Edge support for the plugin?

After installing the plugin it does not seem to be available in Windows 10 with Edge.

I'm not using the adapter but navigator.plugins does not contain the plugin after installation and restart. Also, like already discovered the ActiveXObject does not exist anymore which means it can not be activated the old way.

Perhaps some modifications are needed to make it work. Has anyone been able to run the plugin in Edge?

Hi Martin,

Please refer to this issue that already covered your question : https://github.com/Temasys/AdapterJS/issues/99

The short version is:
  • Edge does not and will not support plugins.
  • IE 11 is also installed on Windows 10 (also you cannot set it as default browser). IE 11 supports plugins and the Temasys WebRTC plugin does work on it.
Thanks,
J-O

Appreciate your good work guys. How's the status as of today? Does Teamsys support Edge? I tried https://getaroom.io after installing the plugin but I see the local video stream (GUM works) but I could not see the remote video.

The status is the same.

Edge does not support plugins, so that;s out of the discussion.

AJS was updated to better support Edge in 0.14.0. I suggest you have a look at that.
Getaroom is not using this latest version due to library conflicts. Hopefully it should be resolved at some point in February.
