Sorry to bother you guys but I get this message "This motion image cannot be played" on my LumixDMC-LX5 whenever I have my memory card in the camera. However when I take the card out, I can see the 4 pictures just fine. I would want to save the images but it won't let me once the memory card is in. Any suggestions on how to get the 4 photos saved? Thanks for your time!

Is this because you have recorded to the camera memory rather than the SD card? I got myself confused on my LX3 with the same issue. With the SD card inserted the 'playback' mode will not show anything that is in the camera memory.

Your question is ambiguous. You mention 4 images ( JPEG or RAW) but the LX5 is saying it cannot play a video / motion file. The implication is that a video file is on the SD card that was not recorded by the LX5. Either way, as has already been said, transfer images from the card to a PC/Tablet using a USB card reader.

So I have copied everything that the computer is willing to copy but I cannot open any of them on my computer. I wouldn't even bother getting these but they are about our son a week before he died and I'd love to have them.

Almost NO computer will play digital camera video files from the start - you need to use a decent video player (not Windows media player!) - look for MPC HC or VLC player, both fully free, VLC is portable, MPC is smaller.

And they will play 99.99% of anything video related. (You might need to open MPC HC and drag 'n' drop the video files into it - it might not recognise the file extension even though it will play the video itself)

If so, then you need to copy them from the camera's memory to an SD card. The card you're using seems problematic, so I suggest you either copy all photos off the card and reformat it in the camera or do the same with another card. Then copy all photos from internal memory to the memory card. You should be able to review the photos using the camera with the SD card in or out at this point and the photos should be readable by the computer.

If you're not sure how to copy the images from internal memory to the SD card, put the camera in Playback mode and press the middle button on the multi-way controller. Select the Playback menu (not Playback Mode) then scroll down to Copy. Press the Right arrow and select In->SD and confirm the request. Note that this is a Copy operation, so the originals will remain in internal memory until they are deleted - which can only be done with the SD card removed.
