Ellegarden's second album "Bring Your Board!!": a punk rock masterpiece

Ellegarden is a Japanese music group that combines punk rock, emo and pop influences. Their second full album, "Bring Your Board!!", was released on July 2, 2003 and showcases their energetic and catchy sound. The album features 11 tracks, including the hit singles "Surfrider Association", "No. 13" and "Jitterbug".

The album title "Bring Your Board!!" reflects the band's love for surfing and skateboarding, as well as their attitude of having fun and being adventurous. The album cover depicts a surfer riding a wave with a guitar-shaped board, while the back cover shows a skateboarder doing a trick with a similar board. The album also comes with a sticker sheet with ads for other Ellegarden releases.

The album was recorded and mixed at DLB Studio by Hideo Nishi, who also worked with bands like Asian Kung-Fu Generation and Husking Bee. The album was mastered by Yasuji "Yasman" Maeda at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Tokyo. The album was produced by Shu-1 Matsumoto, who is also the label boss of Dynamord Label, which is Ellegarden's own independent label.

The album received positive reviews from critics and fans alike, and reached number 75 on the Oricon Albums Chart. The album showcases Ellegarden's diverse musical influences, ranging from punk rock legends like The Clash and Ramones, to alternative rock bands like Weezer and Foo Fighters, to pop punk acts like Blink-182 and Sum 41. The album also features some songs sung in English, such as "A Song for James" and "Wannabies", which demonstrate the band's fluency and confidence in both languages.

"Bring Your Board!!" is a classic album that represents Ellegarden's style and spirit. It is an album that will make you want to grab your board and rock out with them.

Ellegarden's popularity also extended beyond Japan, as they gained fans from other Asian countries, North America and Europe. They toured extensively in these regions, playing at festivals like Japan Nite, SXSW, Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos. They also collaborated with other international artists, such as Sum 41, who featured Ellegarden's song "Fire Cracker" on their DVD Rocked: Sum 41 in Congo. [5]

In 2008, however, Ellegarden announced an indefinite hiatus due to creative differences and personal issues. The band members pursued their own solo projects and other musical endeavors. Hosomi formed the alternative rock band The Hiatus, Ubukata formed the electronic rock band Nothing's Carved In Stone, Takada joined the pop rock band The Predators, and Takahashi joined the punk rock band MONOEYES. After almost 10 years of silence, Ellegarden surprised their fans by announcing a reunion in May 2018. They launched their official website and social media accounts, and revealed their first national tour since the hiatus, titled "THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN". The tour consisted of 11 shows in 6 cities across Japan, and sold out within minutes. The band also released two new singles, "The Boys Are Back In Town" and "Hana", which were well received by critics and fans alike. [3]

Ellegarden continued their comeback with more new releases and live performances in 2019 and 2020. They released two more singles, "Red Hot" and "Supernova", which showcased their evolution and maturity as a band. They also performed at various festivals and events, such as Fuji Rock Festival, Summer Sonic Festival, Nano Mugen Festival and Countdown Japan. They also held their own online live stream event in 2020, which attracted over 300,000 viewers from around the world. [7]
