After choosing Telugu on my taskbar (Windows XP), the font in M.S. Word i.e., the font in the top dropdown box is aitomatically changing to Gautami but while typing the font either converts to Times New Roman or if constant (erratic)
at Gautami, after typing the type output is displayed as empty rectaungular boxes.
While typing how to get Telugu output?

you have to switch the input language to telugu. Then only selecting
Gautami would work.

How to do: Control panel -> Language settings -> goto Input method tab
( i guess) and click advanced or something where there will be a key
assigned to go back and forth between input languages. Mostly it would
be ctrl+shift unless you specified something else.

Inshort: press ctrl+shift and then try doinging the same thing you did.

You must be using an older version of Word. Word 97 or Word 2000.

may be try this

Step 5: Set Word to automatically detect language
Verify that Word is set to automatically detect the language of the
text that is being typed. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Start Word.
2. On the Tools menu, select Language, and then click Set Language.
3. Click to select the Detect language automatically check box, and
then click OK.

I am using M.S.Word 2002 with SP3. It was already set to detect launguage. Now the problem - the font either gets converted to Times New Roman at the time of typing or if stuck to Gautami yield blank vertical rectangular boxes.

Is there  a problem with Gautami fonts? How to check whether they are installed properly or not?

Jyothigaru,
eenadu uses its own encoding for the eenadu font not the unicode. so
you cant directly cut and paste. use padma
http://geocities.com/vnagarjuna/padma.html to convert eenadu to unicode
and then you can paste it anywhere

To be able to see telugu in notepad and various other windows applications follow the first three steps(till rebooting) from the link http://telugublog.blogspot.com/2006/03/xp.html .

I used to get rectangular boxes when ever i type telugu in MSWORD or note pad( I am using MS WORD 2003 in XP with SP2). What i did is i configured my system to support INDIC language (through control pannel). Now i am able to type telugu in MSWORD and NOTEPAD (with aksharamala) and i can even rename my folders in telugu etc.Try configuring system to support telugu language ..
