telugu word for collateral damage

I am joining this discussion a bit late. My knee-jerk
reaction was, "Boy! Did I have this word in MY
dictionary?" I looked it up and indeed it is there!
I am pleased to see that someone beat me to this by
looking it up there first!
In my opinion, any word or phrase that conveys the
meaning from the context is a good start. The acid
test for the suitability of any translated word is our
ability to use it in a context while keeping the
"tUgu" of the sentence in its original version.
"anushaMhika nashTaM, anushaMgika hAni" are ok.
Purists may frown at this usage saying that replacing
"collateral" with "anushaMgika" is like replacing
"pilli" with "mArjAlaM." For them, "tadupari" should
serve the function. One way to make "anushaMgika"
sound to our ears like a Telugu word is to use the
same
trick that many of our classical poets used when they
splatter a poem with Sanskrit "samAsAlu".
To wit, instead of saying "anushaMgika hAni / nashTaM"
we say, "anushaMgikaMgA jarigina hAni."
I am sure, with effort we can find other suitable
words. For those who feel uncomfortable using
Sankritized "anushaMgika," it is only necessary to
remember that "co-lateral" is not English either.
