13th Ugadi Telugu Creative Writing Contest
Vanguri Foundation of America, Inc is pleased to announce the 13th Telugu Creative Writing Contest on the occasion of Sarvadhari Nama Ugadi (April 7, 2008). The contest is open for all writers of North America and all NRI writers living outside India in any country
The contest, conducted annually for the past twelve years, is intended to encourage and inspire creative writing among non-resident Telugu people living outside of India. Our goal is also to promote Telugu language and literature in North America and around the world and to get due recognition for Telugu language in the international community. A panel of qualified Telugu Literary persons will judge the winning the entries. In addition to a Certificate of Excellence, winners will receive cash awards as follows:
Contest Categories & Awards:
Telugu Short Stories: Two awards of US$116 each.
Telugu Kavitha (Poetry): Two awards of US$116 each.
Telugu Essays: Two awards of US$116 each.
Telugu Novels: Two awards of US$250 each.
Special Awards: All First Time Writers in Telugu in the above categories.
The winning and other selected entries will be published by Vanguri Foundation of America, Inc. and its associates. Since its inception in 1994, the Foundation has published 31 books, most of them by Telugu writers of North America, including 9 volumes of "America Telugu Kathanika", a compilation of selected Telugu Short Stories by Telugu writers of North America. The Foundation also organized five bi-annual "America Telugu Sahiti Sadassulu" and "Motta Modati Prapamcha Telugu Sahiti Sadassu" in Hyderabad on December 31, 2006 & January 1, 2007. Details will be announced soon for the upcoming "6th America Telugu Sahithi Sadassu" and "Rendava Prapancha Telugu Sahithi Sadassu" during this year in 2008.
Contest Guidelines:
1. Please limit all submissions to Short Story, Poetry and Essay categories to 15 hand written pages. Please limit your individual submissions to three entries per category.
2. While the authors can chose any theme for their article, we encourage the writers to explore themes that are related to life in North America and other countries, effects of globalization on our lives, youth related issues in North America and other countries, role of Telugu associations around the world and their accomplishments, immigration issues, effects of Telugu TV and any other contemporary issues.
3. Only original, unpublished works (including personal blogs, web sites and printed media) at the time of submission will be accepted. All participants are requested not to publish their entries until the contest winners are announced. A note agreeing to these simple stipulations by you is appreciated along with your submission.
4. The authors must send their real name, address, phone number and e-mail even though pen name can be used for the purpose of publication.
5. Decisions by VFA organizers is final on all issues.
6. The results of the Contest will be announced on or before June 1, 2008.
