A topic on "Pineapple" came up during a gathering of some Telugu

there a Telugu name/word for this fruit? Also, what is "Apple" called
in Telugu?
Thanks,

సీమరేగిపండు is something completely different. Its more a "Pear",
and nowhere close to an apple. Isn't it?
Regards,
Sreenivas
apple is not our fruit
like carrot, beetroot and pear
so no name for apple in telugu
where as pineapple entered to our palates little early
so we are happy to adapt 'anasa' name for this fruit

To me it looks like you are describing panasa paMDu, not anAsa.
In Hindi, apple is sEb and this word is used as sEbu in kannaDa.
Other Dravidian languages seem to use only apple. Any way, even
for words where there are telugu equivalents, they are not used
and only the English words are used. At least here there is an
excuse to use only the English word!

You are welcome.

Wrong! You are thinking of పనస పండు. అనాస (please note the
దీర్ఘం)is indeed pineapple.

Pineapple is called "anaasa pamDu". This is how the street vendors in my hometown, Amalapuram, used to say.
As far as Apple is concerned, my grandmother used to call it as "seema pamDu".
When we used to tease her that it is Apple, she changed it to "yaapleesu" kaaya.

I have heard the term అనాస పనాస used for pineapple. I am not aware
of a Telugu term for apple. Neither fruit is indigenous to India. Pineapple
came from
the New World and the apple from the mountains of central Asia.
Interestingly, the scientific (latin) name for pineapple is Ananas comosus.

Yep!
It is not exactly the one we get in the US but close to it
with a flavor closer to our రేగి పండు. There is another one in between the two sizes
This is more oval shaped and almost 3-4 times larger than the
typical రేగి పండు available in AP. Its flavor is almost identical to the native fruit.

Nilgiris, Heritage, Foodworld).
