A list of SreeSree verses used in movies can be found in:

http://www.telugucinema.com/c/stars/SreeSree_profile.php

This list includes songs that I could collect till the date on the
article (June 15, 2003). After that came Tagore (2003) and atanokkaDE
(2005) with songs listed by Sree Jampala.

Members may please add more songs to the list. (I actually sent this to
another group to which the original message was copied, but this group
has SreeSree's son among its members and so I thought he might be able
to add more.)

NaChaKi.

Does anyone know the other poems Sri Sri wrote during this period?

I read some where that the lines of Communist Manifesto inspired Sri
Sri to write this poem.

It seems Chalam first mentioned the great blind singer K.C.Dey and Sri
Sri got it changed to Paul Robeson. Chalam in a separate occasion (in
his 'musings' mentions Saigal's గరళం మింగిన నవ్వు in 'dukh kE'
song from Devdas and also mentions Sri Sri 's చేదు విషం జీవఫలం .

"nijamu cheppu nijamu cheppu eduru nIku lEduraa..." From the movie
"daLapati" by Maniratnam. Arvindswamy renders this to Vijayakumar.

That was pratijna (polaalanannee, halaaladunnee...).
According to SreeSree, abboori raamakRshNaaraavu remarked that he
got the entire manifesto of the Progressive Writers Association (not
communist manifesto) promulgated by Mulk Raj Anand et al. in that
poem.

Since there is this prastAvana about jvAla & sRjana patrikalu I have
a question on Sri Sri's response/interview, hope to find some answer
(s):

In 1969 I believe jvAla patrika reported Sri Sri as saying, he
wanted to go to Srikakulam and join naxalites. Sri Sri cleary
stated later when asked & reported in sRjana that jvAla might have
given its own "coloring" to his statement. He had only said, he
intended to go to Srikakulam to see the struggle "on the spot"
and "study".

Since he himself clarified what he said, there is less to disagree.
I wanted to find out if he confided it to anyone or wrote someplace
about -- why he might not have considered joining the struggle? Or
did he consider it and then gave it some 'coloring' of his own, to
get out of the dilemma? What held him back? Or what was it that he
wanted to study? (well, if you are like, eMdukoccina taMTA, you
don't have to answer even if you know -- no bhaetaaLuDu to climb
back up a tree, even if you know some or part and don't answer).

Sri Sri comes across as one having a child's heart with a man's
body -- whether it is reading what Afsar wrote about his leftist
preference or what Veluri wrote about Sri Sri's own admission, not
being able to take his colored glasses off, or it is about his own
interview on transforming Hyderabad to make it more civilized as a
Telugu raajadhaani -- everything looks very child like. I would not
have turned to him for any policy related questions or polity.

I wonder, if he was used by some invisible hand(s) selling an agenda
by attaching his name more often than necessary. I wonder about
that not without any basis. calaM said at one time I believe:

I do believe calaM came close to speaking truth on many occassions
(or what comes close to it).

Jampala garu,

I agree with you. 'pratijna' was based on Progressive Writers'
Manifesto from London which Sri Sri got from abboori raamajRshNaaraavu.
But the lines

'E dESa caritra cUsinA
Emunnadi garva kAraNam
narajAti caritra samastam
parapIDana parAyaNatvam'

seems to have been inspired from the line in communist manifesto..

'... the history of all hitherto existing society is the history is
class struggle..'

Swamy

I am extremely sorry to Sree Sreenivas Paruchuri - I was under the
impression that the original article carried the appropriate
acknowledgment, but I somehow forgot that even then and assumed it was
there when I sent this. The information in the above page was compiled
from Sree Paruchuri's messages and e-mails from the past. The article
also now acknowledges him. It was unintentional that I missed the
credits.

NaChaKi.
PS: Bhaskar gaarU, there are some other partially quoted verses, I
realize, "sankalpam" (partially quoted "kompella janaardhanaraavu
kOsam" (?) and "dESacharitralu) and "mahaanadi" (partially quoted
"kompella janaardhanaraavu kOsam") movies come to my mind immediately.

From the annotations in the virasaM pracuraNalu, chalaM wrote Saigal,
and SreeSree changed it to Paul Robeson.

I was disturbed when I read this the first time. That was supposed to be
a direct quote from Souris. To me, it seems dishonest to make such an
attribution.

A controversy has long dogged SreeSree regarding the dESachairtralu
poem. There are apparently similarities between this poem written in
1938 and a poem written earlier (in 1937) by Berthold Brecht ( I
remember reading a version, but cannot recall where). Several people
have insinuated (and continue to insinuate) that SreeSree was inspired
by Brecht's poem, but did not acknowledge it.

SreeSree himself addressed the issue a few times (see praja, 1990 edition, pages 123 and 294). He said that he hasn't seen Brecht's poem before he wrote dESacaritralu (and it is quite unlikely for him to read the 1937 German poem by Brecht in that short interval). Since SreeSree has attributed his inspirations to other poems in the mahaaprasthaanaM, it is difficult to believe that SreeSree did not intentionally acknowledge Brecht.

SreeSree said that dESacharitralu was inspired by a బ్రాహ్మాండమైన
editorial by muddukRshNa in jvaala.

I do not recall ever reading that dESacaritralu was inspired by the
Communist Manifesto.

My apologies for slightly digressing. I think it should be "Aravindswamy renders this to Jaishankar" and not to Vijaykumar. My usual trivia please.

Best wishes

It is surprising to note that no one in this group has so far mentioned about the 'Mahaprasthanam' poems being used by Maadala Ranga Rao in his revolutionary films which pulled quite a good number of audience to the theatres at that time. I understand he also enjoyed close proximity with Sri Sri's family and helped him in his(financially) turbulent times.
