[racchabanda] Which is the longest Telugu film song?

I think it has been quite sometime since we palyed at this. So here it is.

1) Which is the longest Telugu Film song (by time)?

At 10.55 minutes, is "Krishna Mukunda Murari" from Panduranga Mahtmyam (Old) the longest, or is there any other?

2) The 78 rpm records of yester years and the 45 rpm SP records could hold upto 3 minutes on one side. So how did they manage to print such long songs?

I think Srinivas paruchuri garu would answer the last. :-)

There are quite a few examples. In film "vaalmiiki" (1960) the raamaayaNam story is sung, running over 12 min. There is the "aandhrajyOti" non-film song by Ghantasala of ca. 12 min duration. All are 4-part recordings; i.e. on two 78rpm recordings, the song spread over both sides of the 2 discs. Then you have those 2 yakshagaanam-s in "malliiSwari" (1951), P. Bhanumati's dance number in "vipranaaraayaNa" (1954) and so on. BTW, "girijaa kalyaaNam" in "rahasyam" (1967) doesn't run longer than 12:10 min.

see above. Basically the song was cut over more number of discs.

Most of the cinema halls in rural areas used to play this song on their loud speakers just before the film screening was to begin. Its so to say the last call for the audience in the village to start walking towards the cinema hall. If the turn-around wasn't good, this song was repeated up to 2-3-4 times :-) Thus the life time of this disc was short and it was one of the best sold records in Telugu.
