Dear Friends,
Mr M.Saradhi asked to clarify the
meaning of the terms Prakruthi and vikruthi..
Prakruthi is the root or origin of the word.. It is
equal to Sanskrit and Prakruth.. Those that are
derived from Sanskrit and Parakrut are Thadbhavas. They
are Vikruthis. For example Radhaha is
Sanskrit.,Radhamu is prakrutha rupam because the
Sanskrit visarga has gone and the Mu of Pradhama
Vibhakthi came to it. The word derived from these to
it gradually is Aaradhamu is Vikruthi. In brief it can
be said the original word is Prakruthi. The word that
has gradually comes from it is vikruthi. We can also
take Agni prakruthi and Aggi vikruthi.. Mrugamu
prakruthi and Mekamu vikruthi. In all Indian languages
of Sanskrit origin this may be there in a different
name. But that I am not sure.

Raghavarao garu and Sundaram garu,

Thank you for clarification and explanation.

One of the reason for my intriguing with prakruthi and vikruthi is:
- Devudu (prakruthi) and Dayyamu (vikruthi)

In literal/ usage sense these 2 are opposites, as one represents good
and other represents bad. While for example 'Lakshmi' and 'Lachhi'
mean the samething.

Is it not a surprise 2 words (Devudu, Dayyam) which have totally
opposite meaning, become a pair of prakruthi and vikruthi?

Is there a reason for this?

Thank you... Saradhi.

I have a doubt whether dayyam is different from deyyam.dayyam is the vikruti of daivam or devudu. But deyyam is an imaginary creature with bad qualities opposite to those of devudu. Please have a look at it Saradhi garu!

Sorry for a verrrrrrrry late reply. But is it the same reason the "Theyyam" form of dance from Kerala has such elaborately decorated characterisations?

Best wishes

Daiva and dayyam may not be unrelated. According to Romila Thapar,
daiva meant demon for the Zend Avesta which was compiled around the
same time as Rg veda (1400BC). The Zoroastrians differed from the
Aryan speakers in almost every way with ahura (asura) representing the
creator and daiva, the demon. Indra was an evil man (daiva) for them!
They seem to have differed from those who chose to settle in Indus
valley and went back with thier own set of beliefs. Theyyam is a
definite pointer too.
