Here are a few more film versions:
1. Gaali Venkateswararao, who played the lead role, sings సావిహరే in
మాలపిల్ల (1938)
2. రాధికా కృష్ణా రాధికా in త్యాగయ్య (1946), అమ్మాయిపెళ్ళి
(1974)
3. a beautiful rendition of ధీరసమీరే by P. Susila in
జగన్నాటకం (1960).
4. ప్రళయపయోధిజలే in అన్నదాత (1954, ANR, Anjali)
The set of 3 CDs mentioned by PALANAgaaru is IMO a 'must hear'!
Incidentally P.S' చందన చర్చిత in తెనాలి రామకృష్ణ (1956)
is based on రఘునాథ్ పాణిగ్రాహి's tune.

Sreenivas

It just happened that I heard for the first time a new (for me) musical
rendition of geetagovinda. The vocal performers are Sree B Krishna
Murthy adn Sreemati R Vedavalli. The following features distinguish
this presentaion.
(a) All the ashtapadis with preludes for some of them are sung.
(b) Most of the singers sing only a few padas in the ashtapadi.
Here all the padas in all the ashtapadis are sung. This is
quite a unique feature.
(c) The instrumentation is minimal and supportive.
(d) The Sanskrit pronunciation is reasonable. Though not five-star
it is between 3 and 4.
(e) The ashtapadis are sung in the ragas recommended in the
texts of geetagovinda.
B. Krishnamurthy is a retired principal of Madurai Music College and
a great scholar. He was a disciple of Sree Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar.
His one major achivement is setting to music of Tyaagaraja's
prahlaadavijayam and naukacharitram. R. Vedavalli is a vidushi
honoured in 2000. An interesting feature is that with her eminence,
she played only a supporting role in the singing. This is very rare.
These songs may be heard at http://www.malayalavedhi.com/music
For completeness, I give hereunder other musical renditions of
geetagovinda about which I am aware of. Others may add to
this list.
1) Some ashtapadis by Ghantasala
2) Two cassettes by Balamuralikrishna (Some of these are at
http://sai.aros.net
3) Two cassttes by Bomaby sisters (all ashtapadis, but not all
padas)
4) Ashtapadis by Sree Vidyabhushan. (He has a beautiful voice.
He was for a long time a Swamiji in an Udupi mutt.)
5) Eight ashtapadis in Oriya mode by Vani Jayaram. Six of
these are avaialable at http://www.vanijayaram.com
6) Some film versions such as in Tenaliramakrishna (Susheela),
Vipranarayana (Bhanumati), Anandamath (Hemant and Geeta),
Meghasandesam (Yesudas and Susheela?), a large number of
ashtapadis in the Kannada film Hamsageete (sung by Balamurali,
MLV and Soolamangalam Rajayalakshmi). The Hamsageete
songs are available on musicindiaonline.
The fourth and the fifth above are faultless in Sanskrit pronunciation.
Geetagovinda kavya itself with English translation and devanagari
original is available, I think, from the Amazon.com. The author is
Barbara Stoe Miller. I have the rare Vavilla version in Telugu (1917
edition!).
Enjoy the sacred profanities of geetagovinda! J K Mohana Rao

Mohanarao gArU:
Sri Raghunath Panigrahi who did a superb job singing the entire Geetagovinda.
Among his, the "padmAvati caraNa" is a master piece.

Surprisingly you missed the movie భక్త జయదెవ్ in the list!
Akkineni, Anjali and Relangi are the main cast. Ghantasala ofcourse
sang all the songs. I am not sure if all the ashtapadis are recorded
for this movie or not. And yes, Ghantasala supposedly have recorded
ashtapadis separately from this movie as well. So we should be able
to find two recitals of Ghantasala one for the movie and one for the
private collection.
[This movie was not a great hit, but I know of this movie because it
was my uncle who burnt his fingers by making this movie :-) ]
And yes, it was Jesudas and Suseela in Meghasandesam. To add to that
the other important name that has to be mentioned is Rameshnaidu who
scored the music for this movie. The specialty of the recording in
this movie is the parallel recording of sanskrit and telugu
translation of రధిక కృష్నా. Suseela and Jesudas sang this in
parallel, Suseela in Sanskrit and Jesudas in telugu. Guess whose
translation it was... none other than Palagummi Padmaraju!

Not deliberately, I never heard those. Surprisingly, they are not
available on any music sites too. I have with me only the recorded
versions of Ghantasala. All the ones I mentioned are the ones I
have heard and those that I have with me.
There is a story behind Hamsageete also. T G Lingappa was the
music director. The producer-director G V Iyer (movie maker in
Sanskrit) wanted another music director to score the background
music. Lingappa did not agree and he excused himself from the
rest. Already his songs were set to music, so ably sung by
Balamurali, MLV and Rajyalakshmi. When the time came for
giving credits, Lingappa did not want his name as by then he
was no longer associated with the movie. Then Balamurali
suggested that since he at least sang all those songs, why
not put his name. So the music director was mentioned as
Balamurali. That year that movie got the best all India
music award and Balamuralikrishna, not Lingappa, received
the award!!

I didn't know about palagummi's translation. The parallel versions
were discussed in this forum, I think, a year or so ago.
Surprisingly you missed the movie భక్త జయదెవ్ in the list!
