Dear Friends,,
All who have seen the Telugu Films that are produced till 1980 or so need no introduction of S. Varalakshmi who died day before yesterday in Chennai at the age of 84..She has acted in many Telugu and Tamil Films. She was the first heroine to Akkineni in 1940s.Later she acted in many films with Late NT Rama Rao.. Though basically famous for mythological roles like Sathyabhama ( Sri Krishrjuna Yuddhamu) in 1970s she played mostly the roles of rich and proud mother in which she looked more glamorous than the heroines in those films. This remember the words of Shakespeare about Cleopatra"Age Cannot wither her nor custom stale".
More than as an actor she as a singer rendered most melodious songs
1 Meerajalagalada Na yanathi ( In old Srikrishna Tulabhharam with late Raghu Ramaiah.)
2 Srideveni needhu devheverini ( Sri V4enkateswara Mahtyam with Late NTR)
3 Varala Beramaya Vanaram Bermaya( DO)
4 Tirumala Tirupathi Venkateswara ( Mahamanthri Thimmarusu)
5 Leela Krishhna Nee leelau theliyaganina ( Do)
5 Rajata rajadharmamata( ( Poem in Lavakusa)
She has a peculiar and nice voice of her own like Late. Bhanumathi. Her birth is in Esat Godavai Dt but grown up in Kurnool.Enadu reports that none from Telugu Film industry represented at her funeral. She acted in a number of Tamil films.Including Jayalalitha all famous Tamil personalities paid respects to her.Only Mr Balamurali Krishna expressed condolences on her death.. She learnt classical music under Balamurali Krishna during the days when she was busy in films.
Most of the RB members I think are below 50 years. but might have seen the films of S. Varalakshmi.I just completed 63 years very few days back.but active by God's Grace.
