Living in this continent, we all lead compartmental lives -- we live and
work where we are a minority. We have work friends, tennis friends, or kids'
school friends, and neighbors.

Yet, childhood memories and influences die hard. We feel instinctively
comfortable around "our people", those we grew up with. Despite all our
success, we want them to recognize us. We even form groups like RB to
ostensibly to discuss literature, but more for the people we can so easily
relate to, and the comfortable relationships.

We have one such club in Detroit, called DTLC, Detroit Telugu Literary Club.
As the name suggests, its main purpose is to create a forum where we read
Telugu books. Over the years, we read several books together. We had parties
together. We listened to esteemed guests together.

Now, as it has been 10 years since we started this club, we want to have a
little meeting to invite all of you and spend a weekend with us. The event
is scheduled to take place on Sep 20th and 21st. We start on the 20th
morning and go on till 21st evening.

What can we offer? We can offer the chance to listen to people like Velcheru
and Veluri. If you are lucky, you can see Hanuma and Lyla face-to-face
discussing koku and Sri Sri. If the plans work out, you can learn a thing or
two from Paruchuri. If we were to believe the rumors, you can meet Aruna and
her husband Panini. We can get autographed copies of my esteemed brother
Chandra Kanneganti. And, there is every chance you can hang out with
Chowdary Jampala, Ma.Ma.

And, of course, if we are lucky, we get to hang out with you!

Just to clarify: I have no illusions that you will go back enlightened in
any way about Telugu literature or arts. You will hear some original work, I
am sure. But, this is not a scholarly conference. It is a meeting where we
will have fun. There is no pressure here - no need to win tenure, no need to
impress industry analysts, no need to win the respect of peers. You already
are among friends.

Still, there is a structure to this conference.

Keynote Address: Velcheru Narayana Rao
Session 1: Chandralatha (moderator, novel), Kodavalla Hanumantha Rao
(novel), Machiraju Savitri (short story), and Ari Sitaramayya (short story)
Session 2: Kanneganti Chandra (moderator), Veluri Venkateswara Rao,
Venkatayogi Narayanaswamy, and Vinnakota Ravishankar
Session 3: Kanneganti Rama Rao (moderator), Velcheru Narayana Rao, Palana,
and Suresh Kolichala
Session 4: Paruchuri Srinivas (moderator) and Akkineni Nagarjuna(*) (Film
literature), Nasy (moderator) and Mahesh Babu(*) (Blog literature)

(*): There may be possible last minute substitutions.

As usual, local DTLC members, in association with DTA, will take care of you
all when visiting: food, entertainment and so on. Please drop a note to us
and we will take care of accommodations as well. For full details, please

Very good.

We are just trying for such a club in Houston, Texas. Our own Vanguri
Chitten Raju garu is active in such clubs and sadassus all over the
country, but poor him, is not getting any traction here in Houston.

My request to fellow racchabandaites, if there are any members in
Greater Houston area, would you please send me (or Vanguri garu) an
e-mail and we can also get together once in a while like this. My
e-mail address is sudeshp...@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance.
