As he is treated for his wounds in the hospital, he jokes with his fiancée Benitta Dominic that injuries are common in his occupation and that she is free to marry someone else. Later, it is shown that he survived and that he is apprehending another gang of criminals. In the middle of this, Biju's father calls and informs him that Benitta has given birth to a daughter. He joyfully receives the news, but continues his assigned task of arresting the criminals. A voice over briefs that Biju is not a superhero but one of the many dedicated cops in the state.
On the whole, Action Hero Biju is humorous, real, emotional and atypical. It has multiple messages for us, but there is no conventional preaching. If you are someone who likes to see humor and sentimental scenes without the company of theatrical dialogues and music, Action Hero Biju will entertain you. Except for the level of climax heroics, everything else in Action Hero Biju made the cinema lover in me really happy.
Action Hero Biju is one of those film which is driven by situations rather than a specific plot. We get to see the daily life of an honest police officer as he tries to solve petty but real cases. This is what makes AHB so enduring and realistic as it doesn't portray it's lead as some big superhero kinda police who lands big punches and saves the day rather it shows an average cop who does everything according to the book and during the fights gets hurt too. Sooraj's cameo was just incredible and you can clearly see the pain in his eyes. The film had some truly laugh out loud moments and it kept me entertained throughout without any preaching or jingoistic dialogues.
strangely conceived malayalam entry into the recent wave of low key, mid-budget hero police movies (it would make a great double bill with this year's sethupathi), maybe best described by the dual titles - the slightly parodic one on the post (action hero biju), and the more descriptive one that seems to initiate the film proper (a ride with a police officer).
What is the role of a policeman in the society? Ok, we think it is to safeguard people and their property of the locality he is in charge of. But, our films tend to show only the extremes; either make a superhero out of him who takes on the corrupt system single-handedly and walks away in slow motion after blowing up the bad guys in the end or the link in the nexus between the politician, police and the criminal, a dark and grumpy persona without an iota of humanness in his personality.
So, when you settle down to see Action Hero Biju, where Nivin Pauly (his first release after the gigantic hit Premam last year) plays a police officer, you expect him to be like Mammootty or Suresh Gopi who have mastered the art of doing such super hero police roles.
But credit should be given to the director Abrid Shine (who is also credited with the story) for not falling into the trap of spoofing the superheroes of the past or even making his hero emulate them. He just tries to show how mundane the job of a sub inspector of police is.
But, there is hardly anything to justify the words 'Action Hero' used in the title. The action comes in the fag end of the film when he takes on the gang of a goonda, which reminds us of the pathbreaking Tamil film Subramaniapuram (2008).
How it finishes :: The one problem which has undoubtedly worked against this movie is its title itself. The movie is not what the title suggests, as it seems to make us feel that this will either be masala action entertainer or a full comedy movie, but as it ended up becoming a realistic movie, it is sure to make one wonder what kind of audience the makers were looking to target. If people feel that the pathetic eternal drag like Annayum Rasoolum was good and Action Hero Biju is not, I will ask for a change of the meaning of the word. Another fact about Action Hero Biju is that it is cent percent better than the overrated flick which was 1983. But these days, people rarely look for a realistic movie which is closer to life, except for those pseudo-realistic movies like Annayum Rasoolum, the bloody movie in which nothing happens and we have more and more tea to the end. And is it just Premam that we always need? It was clear that people in the theatre enjoyed in this case too.

The first case we kind of gross, and I was glad that our hero was around to make sure this poor young woman got her salary. But it was a sort of a venal crime, the kind of thing that you could ignore without much damage to society, or that could have possibly been solved another way without the involvement of the police. But this second crime, a wealthy man who thinks he can avoid any consequences for his actions in setting a dog on small children, that is something that requires the exact skills and position of our hero. He can call on the support of the police structure to bring the criminal to justice, he can use his wits to find the right case to file against him, and he can use his sense of right and wrong to hold firm to prosecution even when he is pressured to let the case go.
The wireless sets newly introduced in the force can be traced easily but many still use the old sets that are difficult to find if misplaced or lost. As of now, the police are yet to figure out from which wireless set the voice emerged. They have recorded the voice and are investigating the incident. All the best to the real life action heroes to crack the mystery and make a recovery!
