I know you can say "artist" and the artist name and it plays all songs of said artist. Is there a way to voice "next song/track" to skip the song playing? Are there any other functions we should know?

At the moment, it's just:

<Track name> (without anything else)
"Artist" followed by <Artist name>
"Playlist" followed by <Playlist name>

You can also double click the icon to shuffle playback.

Playback controls (next, previous etc..) might be there in an update. It wasn't an efficient way of controlling music because it wasn't always working nicely with Zune. It's more efficient ot embed Zune in the taskbar. You can do this by right clicking on the Taskbar...Toolbars...Zune. Then minimise zune and all the playback controls are immediately accessible from the taskbar :)

Might? I hope you meant "will" be in an update "very soon"... Haha!

Yeah, it would be nice to be able to voice the music to pause or skip the track if listening to a playlist. Any way you can have it always listening so you don't have to press any buttons to speak? Kind of how the Kinect is on the Xbox 360 where you can be listening to music and at any time skip or pause the music.

“TellDJ” “Pause”
“TellDJ” “Play”
“TellDJ” “Skip”
I also found while browsing the internet, the default shortcut (CTRL + SHIFT + T) launches the last tab/website closed, kind of irritating.

lol I wish it were that easy :D I'll consider the voice activation stuff to be prefixed with 'TellDJ'.

The default key combo can be changed in the Voice Recognition Lab. I found that, to be on the save side, clicking on the taskbar first ensured that the CTRL + SHIFT + T combo didn't have any other affects and was sometimes quicker than using the icon itself.

Btw, have you found the recognition to be better after leaving the button clicked for a bit longer?

I didn't notice any difference really. I think I was holding it long enough from the get go.

Seems the song titles with one word works best. I found the song "Crazy" worked 99% of the time. A few times I have said an artist over and over with it not working then right when I say a new artist the first artist starts playing... Haha!

I have a deep voice so maybe that is affecting it. I tried changing my tone and get all kinds of songs I didn't say but if I keep trying it finally works... if they're one word for the most part. :/

That's quite strange. The voice recognition seems to be working, since it does recognise single words most of the time. My only guess at this moment in time is that maybe the microphone position isn't optimal. Try bringing it near your mouth (just to test) and launch a song with multiple words. It may be the microphone is being too sensitive and picking up background noise, or not sensitive enough and just hearing odd bits. What operating system are you running?

I gave that a try and still not working any better, actually, maybe worst.

I'm running Windows 7. For my mic, I'm using the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

I'm not sure what I could do from my side as the voice recognition seems to be working for some others who've replied. Will try and recreate it and see if I can come up with any other possible causes. I can only imagine it being speed of talking and/or microphone levels (which you've adjusted). Hopefully more people will provide feedback and then I'll be able to see if there's a pattern for those who aren't getting a high level of accuracy. For now, you could use the VRL to test multi-word songs and changed the pronunciations.

For anyone following this thread, the problem was solved by uninstalling then reinstalling the microphone. This suggestion has been added to the Tips page.
