Not sure what the problem is right away, but almost certainly it isn't collimation. That would simply affect the quality of what you view, and has a comparatively minor effect.
It sounds a bit as though you are using too high a magnification to start with. Begin with the eyepiece with the lowest number on it -- the 20 mm I think. That should give you a magnification of about 50. Do not use the Barlow lens at all. You should be able to view objects by day with no problem, but bear in mind that the focus position for comparatively close objects such as trees and chimney pots will be different for stars and other celestial objects.
