Hello Allen,

First of all, thank you for your readiness to support the project! It is very important for the ongoing development.

For the taxation reasons, currently it can only be done via an in-app purchase. This is an auto-renewing subscription that is cancelable up to one day before the renewal. You don’t need to contact anybody for that, it can be done via your Apple ID settings on the web or on any Apple device.

We do not want to send donations via the App Store, primarily because
Apple takes a 30% cut with every purchase. Whereas PayPal, Stripe etc
only take 3% or so.

Well, it becomes not that easy when proper taxation and accounting is taken into account. There are pretty complicated rules for doing proper accounting and payment of the European VAT and taxes in several other countries. And Apple handles a lot of that for us. The donations for software are not traditional donations from the German tax law point of view, so they are taxed like any other normal sales. Also, Apple’s cut after the first year of an uninterrupted subscription becomes 15% instead of 30%.

I’m also looking for a way of accepting payments outside the Mac App Store.
