I believe its a usual outage pattern commonly faced at PIE Karachi backbone.

Rumor has it that PTCL's GW 01 (a GSR?) went down. More news shall follow when PTCL provides the *RFO*.

lolz.....do you really believe on getting RFO from PTCL Zaeem :)
It was a service degradation at ITI which was dealt by many ISPs by re-routing the traffic.

Just for the clarification RFO is "reason for outage"

Well ptcl doesnt have this culture of providing written explainations
- the legecy DE culture :)

Well, they are trying to introduce this culture. What if I tell you that I received 2 apology emails from PTCL during yesterday's outage :). Being involved in operations I can certainly feel that the culture is changing.

appology email from PTCL, It could be purely due to personal understanding :)

but the point is did they considered it to be an "OUTAGE" because when I spoke to their support team they said they are facing degraded service not the outage. It wasn't the case as we all know tha.

PTCL do inform all the concern for any planned outage through emails and working drafts but till todate no RFO has been shared.

Hope to see some change in their legacy culture in coming weeks. If I recall their GSR went down last time there was an outage few months back :)

It always is.

Don't expect CSRs and junior team members to give statements. Every operator will try to avoid giving out ambiguous statements lest they cause a problem at a later stage.

Here is hoping that they will.

It was a GSR again :)

Good to know that ...

they have the biggest infrastructure, the widest portfolio of services
and money .. the only thing missing is customer oriented approach. so
i think they have to bring some one on board having great experience
and exposure with CS related matters. Also couple of business process
people to re define their processes etc ...

Again the biggest hindrance is the legacy DE culture which trickles
down till linemen level , DE used to be the King of the exchange ( i
don't know whats the new structure now)

Well i think its time to develop culture of professioanl understanding rather than personal understanding.. thats how nations progress.

If PTCL sufferend any outage they should provide RFO to their customers, Same applies to all organizations. These are machines and machines do malfunction... why to hide it??

This is very good for PTCL to practice standard service support proceudres by circulating RFO for all customers (ISPs specially...if such thing officially floated :) ). Segmented information flow should be discouraged as we are talking about PTCL service delivery and support structure (considering the dependancies of many ISPs on it) for all ISPs.
In an operational infra-structure, technical problems are in-evitable........but proper information flow is very vital. Providing RFO is sensible rather than providing appology letters :)

Problems in one of their gateway at Martson Road, Karachi. The have acknowledged service outage/degradation. I guess their redundant setup is still not operational. I have heard from some insiders that it is supposed to go live around the end of the month.
