..Government planners have prodded China Mobile to take an active approach to foreign acquisitions, as it did this year when parent company China Mobile Communications, which Wang also heads, snapped up Paktel, Pakistan's fifth-largest wireless company, for $460 million. They've also ordered China Mobile to take the lead in developing a Chinese standard for third-generation mobile services rather than rely on existing technologies from the U.S., Japan, or Europe...

CMPak (Paktel) is reportedly gearing up for a considerable network roll-out in September 2007 with internal meetings reportedly talking of Mobilink as their only 'considered' competition! Given the current placement of cellcos, this either seems a joke or a real storm in the making. Let us wait and see.

I think we have yet to see the real unleashing of "chinese might" in

True. It better happen soon. The initiative for the post was a fellow describing the overt excitement (despite the facts) that the CMPak CEO is showing in-house at Paktel these days and the dates mentioned in the post.

Now that's a joke...

What about Telenor? One of the top 10 largest telcos in the world
(yes, WORLD). China Mobile is topping the list in terms of subscibers
- Telenor is around #7. So why only Mobilink?

Maybe benchmarking - because of the subscriber count Mobilink has.
Otherwise - there's no reason to consider Mobilink only...

My two cents (or paisas or whatever...
