It is time all of us stand against the atrocious manner in which The Hindu is misrepresenting facts on Telangana issue.
Please find the news item attached that came today i.e. 26-05-2011 and my letter to the editor, which I am sure, will not be published.
Letter to the editor
Dear Sir,
I strongly denounce the way your paper has been carrying out news on Telangana agitation. It pains even liberal Telangana supporters like me to read your biased news which even undermines the ethics of journalism. Time and again your paper has been misrepresenting facts on Telangana agitation. Your paper is acting as a stooge to the imperialist forces that want to thwart any attempt at carving out a separate state. If you have views, express them in editorials or in special articles. But don’t misrepresent facts.
The news that you have carried on the main page today i.e. 26-05-2011 needs explanation from you. The title suggests that the meeting was successful. What is meant by success? How do you arrive at success of a meeting? I’m sure one parameter must be the crowd that attend the meeting. The next could be the anticipated crowd. On these both counts the meeting was far below success mark. The meeting was held in an area which can accommodate nearly 25000 people. The people attended were not beyond 5000, which has been reported by many news channels, including the ones owned by Seemandhra. Moreover, it was disrupted several times. Do you see in any meeting the main mike on the dais being snatched away? When you have seen this, in all public and electronic media gage, you still call this as successful.
What do you mean by ‘impressive turnout’? Does a ground filled only to its quarter showcase impressive crowd? Please ensure unbiased reporting on Telangana agitation and keep your paper’s credibility . I have been a devout reader of your paper for the past 20 years. But the way you have been allowing some corrupt elements in your news team would definitely dent the image of the paper.
I believe the media owned by persons from seemandhra and employees from seemndhra in the news organizations like yours always try to portray the TRS as villain. In the news that I’m referring to, you have all through mentioning TRS activists as those who obstructed the meeting. For your kind information there were scores of people who do not belong to TRS but working under different JACs also participated whole hearted. How can you ignore such facts.
I am sure that you don’t publish this. But I want to register my objection to such cheap journalistic tactics.
