Dear Friends,

It has been a while since we communicated.  Telangana has gone through testing times and is still simmering.  The tin-drum political class has become obscene and exposing their vulgarity.  Political rhetoric, one-up-manship is the game in the street. We have seen the shame Krishna Report.  we have seen all the games people play.  In the meanwhile the media got a new lease of life. It survives on Telangana life.

we have gone through betrayals and back-bitings.  We - as teachers - must also make our view public.  Despite the games people play, we have the other responsibility of forging the future. We cant afford to be romantic or cynical.  We need to talk among ourselves and with others.  It's time that we met and thought together.

We shall meet this time under the rubric:  University Teachers' Collective.

Why this name?

Well As we all know, One tangible outcome of the Telangana movement over the last one year is that it has won many friends; Many people from other states have become hospitable to the Telangana cause.  But they never had a chance to express their solidarity for there was no platform for it.  The first phase of the movement appeared to provide space for only Telangana people.  Now support for this moves beyond the borders of Telangana.  Let's welcome it.

In order to think further and think together on our common issue the University Teachers' Collective has called for one day's DIKSHA at Art's College, on Osmania Universiry campus, on 4th March.  The DIKSHA will start at 10 a.m. and go on till 6p.m. At the Diksha venue other activities of the Collective will be shared with all the members.

Please do make it convenient  to join us to reinforce the force of Telangana.  Please feel free to forward this email to all the concerned - across all sorts of borders.  This is a Teachers' Initiative.

We hope to see you all at Art's College.

Dear Friends,

As mentioned in the earlier mail, the University Teachers' Collective is planning a series of activities.  The plan was to share the information about the activities on the Diksha day on the 4th of March.

On contacting several of our members from other districts we have come to learn that many of them are involved in a series of local activities.  They also prudently suggested that the Collective's activities must appear distinct and shouldn't be confused with other activities initiated by the political parties and the JAC.  As you all know the JAC has called for the Million March.  In view of these activities, the UTC (University Teachers' Collective) has decided to postpone the Diksha activity for the present.  However, we will soon inform you the other activities to all the members.

We will soon get back to you.

Thank you for your support.

In solidarity

Dear Friends,
The UTC, I strongly believe, should paly a major role in presenting the true picture of Telangana movement in the national and international media. This is because, there appears a total blockade of reality and a conscious attempt by a section of electronic and print media to malign the movement.
For example, on the next day of (first day's) 48 hours bandh, The Hindu (recently somewhere I heard "a bad paper but Good habit") carried a picture of total bandh observed in Warangal, but not about Hyderabad on the front page. It could have carried the Hyderabad photo itself. Next day's bandh impact in Hyderabad was reported but carried a photograph showing an open shop in the old city. I am sure you all must have seen this. (This paper burdens us with any news related subramania swamy, even if he catches cold, LTTE, Kashmir, Gujjars, etc. but fails to take note of the mass movement and the tragedy of suicides of students). I believe, it works hand-in-glove with the seemandhra media and capitalist class.
The point I am trying to make here is that any non-telugu speaking, educated person, a reader of this news paper, going by these images carried by The Hindu would sure develop a passive, if not negative, attitude towards the movement. There are numerous instances just to talk about this one news paper.
We have to carry this forward on our collective intellectual basis to the attention of national and international media and the institutions of ethics for media.
Recently, a professor from one of the IITs saying that "The Sri Krishna committee report suggests all round development of Telangana, why are you fighting again". This is the level of construction across boundaries of Telangana.
We all should unite in our thinking and act forcefully and swiftly to track the media and help build a positive identity for the movement.

Dear Raghava Reddy,
I completely agree with you. Moreover, i also had the same feeling
when i saw the picture of old city shop in Hindu Newspaper. it is a
deliberate attempt to project the movement in negative way. This is
just an example. Everyday sth or other appears against to the
Telangana movement. I request all members of UTC to react on such kind
of news and mobilize people to support this ongoing democratic self
respect movement from allover the world.

Dear Friends,
Another instance to showcase the inherent ill will The Hindu against the T agitation. (Photograph is attached to this mail.)
The photograph is printed on the 9th page (dated 5-03-2011) which is not so important by its position and content (of the page value). The caption it carries (without any news) is what offending. It, I am sure, is intended to portray a message other than what appears to be. Pl. discuss.
