Dear Members,

In the spirit of Open Data Policy of Telangana State, the three major Transit Agencies in the city of Hyderabad have agreed to open up their respective transit data..

Link for MMTS Dataset: http://data.telangana.gov.in/dataset/gtfs-mmts-hyderabad

Link for HMRL Dataset: https://hmrl.co.in/open-data.html , http://data.telangana.gov.in/dataset/gtfs-hmrl-hyderabad

MMTS & HMRL's link will take the user to forms where the user needs to submit their email ID to obtain the dataset. Collection of email ID is to engage more with the community.

* Dataset for TSRTC will be launched very soon

Note: Datasets will be updated every quarter. Further details of the metadata will be available on the Dataset Page of HMRL/MMTS.

Hi ,

I have a doubt regarding the route_id column in the routes.txt.

I can see the HYB-LPI and many such routes have different route ids.

I checked the official Google Transit metadata file , still I am not sure the reason behind different route_ids for same route ?

Can you please help ?

Hi,

I have some more doubts regarding some of the columns of the file trips.txt.
These columns are not there in the original trips.txt in the Google Transport metadata file.
The columns are :

1) IN_Numstops : by looking at the column name it seems pretty obvious. Number of train stops. So, this is kind of clear to understand.
2) IN_duration : this value is in fraction , So , I guess it is how many hour to reach.
3) IN_distance : This seems the distance in km I guess.
4) IN_speed : I think it is km/hr.
5) IN_LL_dist: I can not understand this.
6) IN_LL_speed : this is related to column mentioned above. So, couldn't comprehend this too.

Can anyone please help ?

Hi Shounak,

Route_id values
Pls see the official Indian Railways (IR) NTES portal: https://enquiry.indianrail.gov.in/ntes/index.html

You will find the route_id's are same as official IR train numbers. For daily suburban/MMTS trains, each individual trip is maintained by IR as a separate train number. Hence the same structure has been maintained in the GTFS as well - staying in sync will make future schedule updates easy.

Request: Please post an alert on this forum if you find any schedule changes of these trains on official IR site. We cannot automate this right now because IR site has extensive anti-scraping mechanisms (understandable if you see the multitude of commercial sites trying to scrape them).

----

Extra columns
Some extra columns were made during GTFS making process to help trace and fix bad data points. They are not important from GTFS point of view; users may drop them if they want. But it's good stats to have from analysis point of view. All the extra columns have IN_ prefix.

IN_LL_dist : Distance in km if you add up lat-long distances between the stations. (as the crow flies) The other distance column was the published chainage distance;  this LL_dist was computed to crosscheck if the published data was ok.
IN_LL_speed :  = IN_LL_dist / IN_duration. (and yes the duration is in hrs as you pointed out)

PS: Changing the subject line to keep this conversation in a separate thread on the group.

Hi Team,
As per the Open Data Policy terms, there is a clause that states that the data will be updated every quarter. When we are looking at the homepage, we can see that the data was last updated on 08/10/2019. Since then an extension has been made to the HMRL network. Can you tell how much time will this take to be updated in your database?

Thanks
Rohit Baluni

It is because there was a delay in procuring information from the HRML, updated data will be available in a day. Please check tomorrow.

Hello,

It was reported here (as well as on Open Data Telangana's website) that GTFS for TSRTC would be released. I have been unable to find this dataset from Telangana so far, but it appears that TSRTC schedules are available in Moovit and on Google Maps, so the data must exist.  Is it publicly accessible?

Thank you

Dear Nicolas,

Thanks for your interest in Open Data and Transit Data. Due to TSRTC's strike and covid lockdown, a lot of schedules and routes have been changed within TSRTC. The information is not yet released by the Organization. We are in the process of reinstating the dialogue with them and obtaining the data.

We shall update here soon on the proceedings.

Regards
Surya
