  • This is Hybrid position
  • Position will be 2 days (Wednesdays and Fridays) remote with 3 days (Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays) required to be onsite at the location listed above
  • Program will only allow candidates who are LOCAL TO THE AUSTIN AREA ONLY (Within 50-mile radius)
  • Please do not submit candidates who are currently out of state and are planning to move to Texas. Candidates must already reside in Texas.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze business objectives, operational processes, and system limitations to identify gaps, propose solutions, and conduct cost/benefit analysis.

  • Lead user research, journey mapping, and discovery workshops to uncover user needs and opportunities for optimization.

  • Develop wireframes, prototypes (low and high-fidelity), and visual hierarchies that meet accessibility and branding standards.

  • Apply best practices in UX/UI design (hierarchy, contrast, alignment, responsive design) using tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including Code for America, developers, and product owners) to ensure designs align with business and technical objectives.

  • Conduct usability testing and leverage tools such as Hotjar for continuous feedback and iteration.

  • Design interfaces for AI/ML systems, focusing on explainable AI (XAI), data visualization, and human-AI interaction.

  • Present complex data and workflows in clear, visual formats that enhance understanding and decision-making.

  • Advocate for user-centered design and ensure compliance with WCAG accessibility standards.

  • Facilitate feedback sessions and sprint planning, ensuring design decisions support both business goals and user needs.


Skills & Qualifications

  • 11+ years of experience designing user interfaces for enterprise systems, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies.

  • 11+ years collaborating with technical and non-technical teams to translate business needs into intuitive, accessible design solutions.

  • 10+ years applying UX design principles to responsive web and mobile platforms.

  • 10+ years creating wireframes and prototypes in agile development environments.

  • 5+ years (preferred) experience in designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives for workflows and system architecture.

  • 3+ years (preferred) facilitating design workshops and stakeholder feedback sessions.

  • 3+ years (preferred) Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, HCI, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage concurrent design streams.

  • Bonus: Experience designing eligibility determination systems or other rule-based, data-intensive applications.
