Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced System Administrator to support the migration and modernization of End-of-Life (EOL) systems. The role involves upgrading legacy environments (Windows & RHEL) to supported versions while ensuring security, performance, and operational stability.

The candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and validating system migrations, implementing security hardening (STIG compliance), and maintaining high availability across enterprise environments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess legacy systems (Windows Server & RHEL) and define migration strategies
  • Perform OS upgrades/migrations (RHEL 5/6 → RHEL 8/9, Windows → latest versions)
  • Handle system reinstallation, configuration, and validation post-migration
  • Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Perform system hardening using STIG, CIS, and security best practices
  • Conduct vulnerability scans and apply remediation (Nessus, OpenVAS, SCAP)
  • Automate tasks using Ansible, PowerShell, and Bash scripting
  • Manage patching, system updates, and compliance requirements
  • Provide post-migration support, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
  • Maintain documentation, SOPs, and migration reports
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 12+ years of IT experience
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with RHEL & Windows OS administration
  • Strong experience with RHEL (5/6/7/8/9) and Windows Server (2008–2022)
  • Expertise in system upgrades, migrations, and legacy system support
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (Bash, PowerShell, Ansible)
  • Experience with virtualization (VMware – majority VM upgrades)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for legacy systems

Security & Compliance Expertise:

  • STIG-based system hardening (RHEL & Windows)
  • Knowledge of DoD security standards and CIS benchmarks
  • Experience with SELinux, firewall configs, Group Policy, and audit logs
  • Automated compliance using OpenSCAP, Ansible, or custom scripts
  • Patch management and vulnerability remediation

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with ETL/data environments
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and automation frameworks
  • Experience with enterprise-scale, high-availability systems
