Cyber Shadow is a side-scrolling action-platform game[3] developed by Finnish indie studio Mechanical Head Studios and published by Yacht Club Games. Using an 8-bit aesthetic, the game follows a cybernetic ninja named Shadow who sets out to rescue his clan in a world overrun by machines.
The game's plot follows Shadow, a cyborg[10] ninja who sets out to free his fallen clan from synthetic lifeforms harvesting them for their powers.[5][7] It is set in the ruins of the fictional Mekacity.[8][11][12] Shadow travels across Mekacity, fighting the cybernetic beings as well as a traitor from his ninja clan called Apparitor, and ends his captured clanmates lives to free their spirits. His ultimate goal is to find the Master of the clan, with whom the original human Shadow had a seemingly romantic relationship. Shadow discovers that the Master was dying of a mysterious spiritual disease, and her father, in a mad scheme to save her life, attacked the city with his synthetic army and betrayed the Clan so as to drain their mystical powers, and use the drained energy to keep his daughter alive. Cyber-Shadow sets out to defeat him so that he can free her spirit from her dying body and reunite with her in the Ethos, the spiritual realm.
A7: While each skill has their use, the parry and shadow slash are definite favorites as they allow for very fast gameplay with a high skill ceiling. Mastering these can easily get your completion time to under two hours.
When it comes to retro action-platformers like Cyber Shadow, there's a lot going against them. Not only are there plenty of pixelated competition on the market, there are many different expectations that come with them. Not only does it want to pay homage to the NES era's obsession with cyberpunk dystopias, ninja mysticism, and early 90s anime trappings, but it wants to take the controller-snapping difficulty of simple two-button combat and elevate it to its breaking point for a modern audience. Despite all of those qualifiers in mind, all of that saturation and ambition that could overshadow this production, Cyber Shadow might just be one of the best action games I've ever played.
We explore shadow information technology (IT) at institutions of higher education through a two-tiered approach involving a detailed case study and comprehensive survey of IT professionals. In its many forms, shadow IT is the software or hardware present in a computer system or network that lies outside the typical review process of the responsible IT unit. We carry out a case study of an internally built legacy grants management system at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County that exemplifies the vulnerabilities, including cross-site scripting and SQL injection, typical of such unauthorized and ad-hoc software. We also conduct a survey of IT professionals at universities, colleges, and community colleges that reveals new and actionable information regarding the prevalence, usage patterns, types, benefits, and risks of shadow IT at their respective institutions.
Further, we propose a security-based profile of shadow IT, involving a subset of elements from existing shadow IT taxonomies, that categorizes shadow IT from a security perspective. Based on this profile, survey respondents identified the predominant form of shadow IT at their institutions, revealing close similarities to findings from our case study.
