Droidcon's website is up.
http://droidcon.in/2011
The CyanogenMod project is going to be at Droidcon. What is CyanogenMod? From their website:
"CyanogenMod is an aftermarket firmware for a number of cell phones based on the open-source Android operating system. It offers features not found in the official Android based firmwares of vendors of these cell phones."
The current version, CM7, is based on Gingerbread. If you have an Android phone stuck on 2.1 or 2.2, or even the older 1.5 and 1.6 releases, with no updates from your phone vendor, CyanogenMod is what you need. It supports more than 50 handset models with more being added every day.
CM's presence at Droidcon isn't just to talk about what they do. It's to get you involved. Diogo Ferreira (aka @defer) will present on the CM project, on why CyanogenMod exists, how it works, what possibilities exist for you with your Android phone, and how you can get involved. We'll have a CM booth where you can bring your phone to get it converted to CM7. If your phone model isn't supported, we'll show you how to add support.
I met Diogo at Droidcon London two weeks ago and pointed out that the Samsung Galaxy Ace isn't in the supported model list. The Galaxy Ace is one of the most popular handset models in India. Less than a week later, support was added. Diogo will show you how it was done and how other handset models can be just as easily liberated.
Droidcon is about more than CyanogenMod. Check out the current list of session proposals. There are over 40 covering a wide range of topics.
