A land set in conflict between four nations, Rivals of Aether is a game set in a world broken into four pieces. The nations are controlled by the four elements, fire, water, earth, and air, with representatives of each nation appearing in the game. Each nation will protect its own, and seek to control and thrive among the others. The combatants of the verse will battle it out, with only the most skilled claiming victory.
As a whole, the verse is surprisingly powerful. Characters can range from mundane to insane in feats, but the Rivals are all just that, rivals, and thus scale to each other. Kragg can throw a 10 tonne rock around like a baseball, Etalus is said to have the power of a glacier behind him, Zetterburn can burn down a massive town, Orcane can make a rain storm fast enough to put out the burning town before it is destroyed, Sylvanos can regrow an entire country-sized forest and threaten the planet's animal life, and Absa can create and sustain a storm, spanning an entire mountain range, so powerful that it makes attacking the mountains impossible.
The hax of the verse are very diverse, aside from the powers granted to every character through Parry. Some characters, such as Kragg, have little more than brute strength and a basic element to manipulate, while others, such as Clairen and Forsburn, are able to time travel and stun opponents nigh-permanently with her blade, and be nearly untouchable with an army of smoke clones to do his bidding, respectively. Teleportation in the verse is especially potent; Forsburn can cross a continent instantly with his teleportation, and Orcane is capable of relocating to any position with water, even if said water is a thousand kilometers away and thousands of meters off the ground in an airship; not even a sink is safe from Orcane's teleportation.
