mac os 10.6 copy & paste problem

I was able to install Tegaki in Mac Os 10.6 but appear to be having a problem copying and pasting characters from Tegaki into mac applications like Textedit.  For example, a character like ro(ろ) will be recognized, however, it will appear as \u3061 in the Mac application.

Is there some encoding option, that should be changed for the Mac application, I am attempting to paste into?

As a side note, was able to install in ubuntu and the program work great!  Just wanted to say - thank you!
