Byintegrating DVB-S/S2/S2X demodulation with the streaming of descrambled content over IP, ProView 7100 enables operators to quickly and cost-effectively launch new services while leveraging their existing IP or legacy ASI infrastructure.
The ProView 7100 IRD harnesses a flexible and modular design to address the vast spectrum of content reception applications, from decoding, descrambling and multiplexing of multiple transport streams to MPEG-4 to MPEG-2 transcoding.
The ProView 7100 IRD harnesses a flexible and modular design to address the vast spectrum of content reception applications, from
decoding, descrambling and multiplexing of multiple transport streams to MPEG-4 to MPEG-2 transcoding. With an advanced and dense
multichannel descrambler, the ProView 7100 simplifies the deployment of (or migration to) an all-IP headend solution and powers the
launch of added-value services. The flexible hardware design is easily reconfigured with firmware upgrades, enabling seamless adaptation
to new inbound video formats and codecs, such as MPEG-4 AVC and HEVC.
The ProView 7100 utilizes powerful processing capabilities to multiplex transport streams that include local and regional data, and also
to perform deterministic remultiplexing for SFN distribution. It supports transcoding of up to eight channels of AVC to MPEG-2, allowing
programmers to efficiently distribute superior-quality video content while using minimal satellite transponder capacity. Content can be
received and transcoded to any resolution required.
A rich set of options includes input of multiple DVB-S/S2/S2X, IP and DVB-ASI feeds. Support for advanced content delivery redundancy
schemes includes the ability to provide simultaneous primary satellite and backup IP network feeds.

[Via Satellite 03-23-2015] Harmonic has improved the ProView 7100, a single-rack, multi-format Integrated Receiver-Decoder (IRD) to support High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) for Ultra-HD video content. The device enables the decoding of HEVC compressed streams at resolutions up to 1080p, 60 fps to boost bandwidth efficiency.
Using a high-density 1RU chassis, the ProView 7100 IRD platform offers decoding in HEVC, MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) and Standard Definition (SD)/High Definition (HD) MPEG-2. Additionally, the device can perform MPEG-2 and AVC transcoding. For the highest possible video quality, the ProView 7100 supports AVC HD and HEVC 4:2:2 10-bit decoding up to 1080p60. New and existing customers can access HEVC decoding capabilities through a software update and license key.
Harmonic is debuting its first integrated receiver-decoder that can transcode MPEG-4 AVC video streams into the older MPEG-2 format, a product designed to let programmers move to all-MPEG-4 distribution.
The company's ProView 7100 IRD provides transcoding, descrambling and MPEG stream processing for up to four transport streams in a single rack unit. Harmonic trails competitors including Motorola Mobility and Cisco Systems, which have offered IRDs with MPEG-4-to-MPEG-2 transcoding for several years.
"By adding powerful transcoding capabilities to the popular ProView platform, we're enabling broadcasters to streamline their operations and decrease operating costs," Harmonic vice president of product management Tom Lattie said in a statement.
The ProView 7100 IRD performs multiformat video decoding with up to four stereo pairs of audio decoding and can transcode up to eight channels for distribution in H.264 or MPEG-2 (four ASI and four IP streams) in standard-definition or HD up to 1080i at 30 frames per second. The ProView 7100's input options include DVB-S and DVB-S2, IP and ASI, and the IRD supports HD downconversion and aspect ratio adaptation.
Access to Spotify, TIDAL, Deezer, TuneIn, and Pandora are built into the system. Use dedicated apps (where available) or the free Onkyo Control App for Apple and Android devices to find and play music.
HDMI 2.1 is the most recent update of the HDMI spec and supports eARC, a range of higher video resolutions and refresh rates including 8K60 and 4K120, and Dynamic HDR formats. 8K delivers a super-immersive viewing experience with 2x the horizontal and vertical resolution of 4K, and 4 times as many pixels; and combined with 60Hz refresh rate enables smooth and sharp viewing of content with high-speed action. HDMI 2.1 with 8K and eARC ensures your system is ready for the clearest and cleanest picture available both now and down the road.
The Onkyo TX-NR7100 9.2-Channel THX Certified AV Receiver easily integrates into your existing Smart Home ecosystem, including Apple Airplay, Alexa, Google apps, and more. You get a highly capable and compatible network device that can operate seamlessly in your multi-room ecosystem.*
Own your opponents with HDMI 2.1 enhancements for gamers: 4K/120Hz HDR pass-through enables ultra-fast motion -VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) eliminates lag, stutter, and frame-tearing for fluid gameplay. - ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) optimizes latency from source to screen - QFT (Quick Frame Transport) limits lag for a smoother experience.
DTS Play-Fi allows you to enjoy high-quality music from connected online services, networked media servers, and your device library over Wi-Fi to any number of compatible products using the Onkyo Music Control App for iPad, iPhone, and Android smartphones/tablets. DTS Play-Fi can synchronize the music in every room. Each member of your family can use their own device to listen to their music in a room or group of rooms. NASA TV UHD video is being sourced from high-resolution images and video generated on the International Space Station (ISS), Hubble Space Telescope, and other current NASA missions. Programming will also include remastered footage from historical missions, shots from NASA's development and training processes, and ultimately live launches. Leveraging the 8M pixel resolution of the UHD format, the channel will create the closest possible experience to looking out of the viewing Cupola of the ISS, for example.
Like the current NASA TV channels and on the same transponder, NASA TV UHD will be transmitted via the AMC-18C satellite, in the clear, with a North American footprint. Harmonic is currently in discussions with pay-TV operators to carry the channel on their satellite DTH, cable and optical networks, for consumer access. The channel will also be streamed on the Internet, which will require at least 13 Mbps access connectivity to receive the signal and achieve the UHD experience.
Transmitted from NASA's Atlanta uplink facility, remotely produced by Harmonic and jointly operated, the complete infrastructure includes examples of Harmonic's Ellipse 3000 contribution encoder, ProView 7100 integrated receiver-decoder (IRD), MediaGrid shared storage system, Polaris playout management suite, Spectrum X advanced media server system, Electra X3 advanced media processor, ProMedia Origin packager and streaming video server and NSG Exo distributed CCAP system.
A key element in the UHD workflow is Harmonic's Electra X3 advanced media processor, the industry's first converged media processor for UHD content with live, full-frame, full-GOP UHD encoding. Powered by the Harmonic PURE Compression Engine, an advanced encoding technology that supports resolutions up to 2160p60 (HEVC Main 10) for broadcast and OTT multiscreen delivery, the Electra X3 will allow NASA to deliver superior video quality at minimum bandwidth.
"As NASA reaches new heights and reveals the unknown, the NASA TV UHD channel can bring that journey to life in every home. And as organizations at the forefront of innovation, together we are leading the adoption of this exciting technology," said Peter Alexander, CMO, Harmonic. "As the leader in UHD development, Harmonic provides a complete solution for Ultra HD video production and delivery, enabling content and service providers to offer better video quality at a low total cost of ownership."
