i have added some very old autocad drawings into autocad electrical project, i figure this might be a good way to learn ACADE by replacing the old symbols with the out of the box symbols, when i inserted a 3 pole CB i noticed that the spacing of the CB from ACADE symbol library is 1", is there a way to change that to 1/2" spacing? or do i scale my very old drawing by 2 and then in paper space i then change my vport scale to 1:2?

Thanks for the reply, but that did not solve the my issue, but looking at your screen shot i saw "ladder default" so i changed that setting and it seemed to work. before i thought that was just for the LADDER format, did not thinking it would effect other thing.
hi, i am struggling with autocad electrical 2018. i am brand new to autocad ad fairly new to drawing, but been an industrial sparky for 10 years so i know what i want to draw and format, just no idea on the ins and outs of the software world. i want to get my schematic catalog updated so that i have more manufacturers selection than just allen bradley. i have searched online and everyone says to just add them via control panel yet as many have said, it does not add them to catalog browser in schematic page or to manufacturers menu in panel page. i dont even know if these two correspond to each other or if they are two different issues. i have tried reinstalling autocad electrcal, downloading default.mdb file from autodesk website and migrating it aswell as anything else i can find but clearly i am doing something wrong or missing something. the end result i am hoping for is to have a decent catalogue of parts for schematics, as well as a good panel layout catalogue for footprints, i shouldnt need to draw a schneider contactor and overload etc surely?
yeah, i have went through all that and added the companies i felt were needed, but upon loading autocad it didnt add or change anything? or at least when i go to catalogue browser it only has allen bradley and when looking in manufacturers menu in panel tab there is also only allen bradley? thanks
ok, i had looked about online and gotten so far without it but may need to give them a watch. using a virtual machine on a laptop so only just got a network connection today, will give it a try. thanks
OK, can you run a little test? You have to be in an active project. For this test I was in the ACE WD Demo that comes with the install. So I Edit Component and select a motor disconnect. In the search bar it shows the AB part number and a selection of matches in the AB mfg. If you type just an * in the search b a few thousand switches appear in the DS category. You may have them loaded. I would suggest you give it a try.
Ahh, ok, getting somewhere now. found all the companies in the browser now and when i do a lookup for the component i choose it also works. still under panel tab, in manufacturers menu it still only says allen bradley, but again, now when i do catalogue lookup on chosen component it finds heaps. is that normal? thanks alot, ive spent god knows how long trying to find what was wrong
Two things to keep in mind. First certain mfg are set as default when you open the catalog. You can change that to your liking, I just don't remember where to do that off hand. Second, this browser will use wild cards. So if you want to know what AB safety switches of a certain type are already loaded you could type in AB 440* and every AB switch of the 440 family will be displayed.
I just remembered that you can open the catalog to poke around and see what is in there. For this example we are on the Schematic tab. Click the down arrow on the Icon Menu. In the drop down select the Catalog Browser. When it opens make sure there is the friendly * in the search window and click on the magnifying glass. Your can change Categories and search them as well. Be careful about changing anything here. ACE is very pick about the format of these tables.
ye thats all good, i did read that somewhere, will maybe set that up later. not too concerned just yet as i need to have more of a look up but although i pick the schneider contactor from catalogue for panel layout, it doesnt seem to like it, its like the description is there but it doesnt have the drawing to go with it? screenshots show my test attempt, screenshot 6 and 7 only occur if i click on option 3: add entry to manufacturer tab. not sure if im going right way about it all, i cant help but feel it should be a block rather than a symbol footprint and the icon menu shows a schematic diagram symbol rather than a block of what i want ie contactor coil rather than a picture of a contactor. am sure there is a reason for this but seems weird or wrong. thanks
One parting shot and my day is done. A lot of the components in the catalog do not have drawings. You can create them with Symbol Builder or download the 2D CAD model from the mfg (if offered) and then run Symbol Builder on it. Running Symbol Builder gives you the chance to add the attributes to the block that ACE wants to see. The other thing to keep in mind is that the catalog item may or may not be associated with an existing footprint, BUT, the trick is finding the same footprint that does have an association. What I mean is that a AB 6mm terminal block may be associated to a footprint but the same physical size Phoenix Contact terminal block is in the catalog but not associated, so we insert the AB terminal block, do a catalog look up to find the Phoenix and select that for the catalog information.
ahh ok, the plot thickens. i will research it all properly instead of the good old she'll be right way, maybe will get all the little bits in betweeen that i am missing. thanks very much for your time and help.
