At CSIR-NML, we are committed to the development of a novel hydrometallurgical process to treat the secondary resources through recovery of rare earths and other components by leaching & Solvent extraction under the XIIth Five Year Plan.
We shall employ the commercially available solvents alone and in combination with the synergistic systems, and even newer reagents. The hydrometallurgical process is envisaged to treat the spent catalysts of petroleum refineries to recover rare earth metals (Tb, Eu, Nd etc,) along with other associated metals. S-X / precipitation technology will be developed to ensure selective separation and recovery of light REMs with high yield. The process developed on bench scale and tested on laboratory scale in continuous mode will be handy to the users to recover all the important components once after engineered and scaled up.
For the above defined scope of work, we have tentatively fixed up the deliverables as:
1) Separation scheme for REMs from solutions / leach liquor to produce individual metal solutions .
2) Optimized separation scheme in continuous mode and recovery of REMs in solution
3) Optimized conditions on bench scale leaching of raw materials and metal separation & recovery
4) Conditions of large scale leaching of REMs and other metals & metal separation & recovery.
5) Process package for further scale up
I require your support to cite name of sponsors/user industries who wish to take this project, with additional support already provided by Planning Commission.
Thanking you
