Hey there TechTalkers!

Tomorrow, Jared Baker, Interim Director of the Advanced Research Computing Center (ARCC), will be talking about supercomputing/ high-performance computing. Join us to learn about the basics and local UWyo capabilities.

TechTalk Laramie Seminar

Tuesday, June 20th at 6pm
Captain’s Room, Altitude Chophouse and Brewery
320 S 2nd St. Laramie, WY 82070

Speaker: Jared Baker, Interim Director, Advanced Research Computing Center

An Insightful Overview of High Performance Computing and Supercomputing
High Performance Computing (HPC) is an exciting, long standing topic of computing since computers have been around. The ability to process vast quantities of numbers and perform unimaginabley arithmetic operations has provided the world with capability to process data, run endless types of simulations, virtualize experiments, and develop technology faster to establish the economic edge. Discover the basics of various platform architectures and how they've stacked over the years, performance hierarchies of processing units, memory systems, disk subsystems, file systems, and data networks by focusing on the fundamentals and explain the necessary definitions behind scale up, scale out, concurrency, and parallelism.

Come eat dinner, drink beer, and learn something new with us! Anyone is welcome so feel free to bring a friend! I can’t wait to see you all there!

Best,
Lenore
