First of all- Drew, how close did you stand to my new Makerbot? Did you look at it very hard? Think bad thoughts?

I took a break from the stepper extruder work to finish building out the new one, and I have a shiny new problem. RepG gives me the "Toolhead 0: Not found" error.

I can bring up the CP, move all axes, etc. But the temp reads out 0 and I cannot move the extruder motor or turn on the heater.

Originally the thermistor was shorted but I fixed that, with no change. I tried two different computers and two different versions of RepG. No change. different ethernet cable: no change. The heater is reading about 3 ohms (power resistor heater.) Updated motherb and EC firmware.

Reading the wiki pages, the "solutions" are all over the place. Most of them look like voodoo BS.

My plan:
1. Swap out the EC and try it

2. Give the motor 12 and see if it runs.
3. Swap out the motor and try it

Unless you all have better ideas, I can't think of anything else to try. I hope it isn't something obvious and stupid.
(On second thought, obvious and stupid would be fine.)

Hmmm. I have Lady Ada's USB TinyISP; I believe that works with AVRdude and is what I burned my first MB's bootloader with, back in.... what year was it?

I'll try those other diagnostics 'cuz they're easy and then go for that. Thanks.

I had the dreaded toolhead not found error back when they first switched repG to the new
comms. This was also back when I was having all the sundry other problems with the
gearmotor extruder. I "fixed" it by reburning the bootloader with the arduino program

You might have to reburn the firmware after that. I'll look around to see what other solutions other
people found to the toolhead not found error.
