THIS is what I meant when I was talking about design flaws in the way
MakerBot Industries designed the z-stage (4 threaded screws with large
separation).

Looks like he's getting amazing print quality AND much bigger build
areas. That's the kind of mod I'd like to make on my bot (but I think
I want access to a laser again before trying: I'm thinking about
buying an entry level laser soon).

Yeah that similar to the ToM and the Z-Rider.

The Z-Rider being a printable upgrade.

Also, there's a laser at the TechShop. :-)

Yeah, I miss TechShop.  It was about 35-40 minutes from my house -- just the limit for me to go out after work and get anything done before needing to get home.  Now it's another 10 minutes away.  Just a bit too far for me to make good use of it.  :-(

Now that we've got gunnk with a working bot and Otto with his kit, plus Drew and Bill as before, I think we should talk about getting together somewhere every once in a while to do some building/upgrades.

Like print or laser the necessary parts in advance and then have a build day.
I am not a member of TSRDU but I can have meetings at Splatspace.

I agree -- learning to tweak and use the 'bot is as much work as building it!  Also, I'm itching to fork my design to improve it.  Of course, I have other projects calling as well (I'm planning to build a CNC router, a MySQL-enabled met station, rewrite my home automation system control panel -- preferably in HTML5/CSS3, a war to plan and Gilder to frame for it).

In any case, a meetup would be cool.
